This is so true. Nascar doesn't set the prices but it cost a lot for the NASCAR licensing fee and having the name at the track you had to expect it would cost more for tickets. They have also done a lot of work on the track and I know there will be a large turn out has they have been playing the ad for many weeks on tons of radio stations.
I'm glad I will also be there to see this and see the track and what they have done.
Not defending NASCAR or anything, but I just want to point out that they don't set the ticket price as far as I know. Tracks pay to have the show come there, and its up to them to set ticket prices to make their money back. Sure, they could charge only 25 bucks....but look how far charging only 25 bucks got them in the past ten years.
There is another option though. You can watch the race free on TV a couple weeks later. Or better yet, record the race, and support your local Saturday night racers instead. Flamboro, Merrittville, heck, even South Buxton...they all put on a pretty good show. And they need your 10 or 15 bucks just as much as Cayuga needs your 45 bucks.
Its not like the price of gas, where you have no choice but to pay it. You've got options.
Just thought I'd throw that out there.
BTW, in spite of the price, I predict a bigger crowd than Cayuga's seen in a heck of a long time. They've been doing an old-school awesome job of promoting it. You heard it here first!
I don't think the Nascar brand has anything directly to do with the admission price set for this race. Barrie Speedway is now a Nascar sanctioned weekly track and the regular gate admission is exactly what it's been for the last five years at least, $14.00. They indicate on the website that admission to the NCATS event on Canada Day will be priced at $30.00 for a 300 lap event. It's a well known fact about how much has been invested in the infrastructure of the facility over the last three years alone, but somehow they are holding the line on pricing and the only role Nascar is playing in that seems to be the offering of $10.00 flat admission for all events, including specials, with the purchase of a Nascar fan membership for $110.00. Not bad.
The $45.00 price for this event at Cayuga combined with the high price of gas pretty much rules it out. And why is it that the Sept. 1 NCATS date is only $35.00? Are 15 Cup Lites worth an extra $10.00?? Anyway, the $99.00 season ticket isn't really an option for me either. The most I'm likely to make the 200+ mile round trip is twice because the schedule just doesn't have that much I'm interested in, so there is zero saving potential for me. Also, keep in mind that it's at least twice that $99.00 if you have someone (or more) to take along. Pricing this event so high compared to so many other worthy events and venues, not to mention race cards, is a hard one to "get", but there's no doubt it's playing a big part in whether I make the trip or not. I may just wait and take in the ASA/OSCAAR show at Cayuga on June 30 and catch NCATS at Barrie on July 1. $65.00pp in tickets plus gas (which is nothing to sneeze at for many), but I'll venture more bang for the buck.
Btw, what about the posted $30.00 ticket for the fledgling OSS? Does that not seem a bit steep for the 12 to 15 cars that might show up? All the best to the OSS, I hope they have a terrific season, but again, I suspect it's a track call to price it that high. The market will ultimately make the call that matters I suppose.
Racewoman- If I did cut you off it was by mistake, or I was trying to gain track posistion !!
LOL Dave
No worries Dave, I understand and believe you were trying to gaining track postion but in the end MY Ford always wins 😉
Good Luck in 2007 but stay away from Donny lol
in the end MY Ford always wins 😉
RW, did I hear you right? Did you say FORD! ;D
Anyway's, I'm still trying to sort this ticket thing out. What about pit passes? If you get the $99.00 deal, can you get pit passes along with that, and if so, how much are they? At any rate, I think I'm headed up 1st thing in the morning, I imagine, there's still tons of camping spots with hydro, I hope. 😉
Has anyone been up there tonight, yet?
I'm more then willing to pay a little extra to watch the event, however I think the $45.00 fee is too much a hike. I could see $35.00 but the extra 10 really pushes it. Why not put a reasonable price out to start and then when you have us hooked start to jack the price? Plus then its not just the group early in the season that pay the money back to Cayuga to recapture the losses from previous years. We are the fans that sit in the stands to watch so don't we deserve a bit of a break? As I said I'm still going but if the show isn't good then I won't be rushing back down this year for any further events.
