The hardware was on display. The drivers had their annual group picture taken. A day to remember drivers, crew members, supporters and fans that have since passed. Three winners would have their names engraved for everyone to see for years to come. And for the second year in a row the names were the same....well the last names....sort of.

30 mini stocks took the green for the feature and what an exciting one it was. Unfortunate for some, as a few of the top runners got involved in a number of wrecks. The #15 Honda of Matt Dean and the #01 GrandAm of Mark DaSilva, the second and 3rd place point cars, sustained heavy damage and were knocked out.
The #3 Charger of Brian Watson, starting on pole, had swapped the lead a couple of times with the #73 Shadow of Ron Larkin Jr, but a late caution with 5 to go closed up the field with the #46 of Zardo and #31 Dave Bailey in striking distance. As the green flew for the restart Bailey passed Zardo and Larkin and took aim on Watson. Coming under the white flag and heading to corner one, Watson cut down to block Bailey's pass the 2 cars collided sending the #3 spinning into the infield and Bailey coming around for the checkers. Contraversy ensued over the finish. Some feeling that Bailey was an involved car and that the race win should go to either Larkin or Zardo....others felt Watson cut off Bailey and "made his bed"....
So far Dave Bailey has been declared the winner and his name will repeat on the Memorial Cup.

The thundercar feature was another doozy. Again some of the top running cars had problems. The #43 of Dave Habel, returning to the track after a long absence, having heavy damage last time out, jumped out to the lead and was having a great run. Behind him there was plenty of bumping and banging and spins. Again some top ten cars sustained damage, some worst then others, like the #37 of Jeff Bean.
But tonight "Girl Power" was to shine. Little Erin Bailey, made the last lap pass on Habel to claim her first thundercar feature to the delight of the Flamboro fans and become the first woman to have her name scribed on the Memorial Cup. Just a note: the car Erin was racing won the Memorial last year.

The full moon was in full glow when the late models took the track for their feature. A couple of visiting cars were at the track adding to the lineup. The action again was intense with a couple of cars mixing it up and receiving damage. With me following all the mini contraversy i didnt see all the action. But #86 Kenny Forth claimed his second Memorial win in a row.

So....two years in a row...the same cars win...just a different driver in one...but the same last names.
Add the names Forth, Bailey....and Bailey again to that cup !!!

Next weekend the double header....Saturday kids soapboxs races...Sunday the Grisdale Triple Crown re sheduled race.
