Power Outage Ends Racing Early At Flamboro Speedway

By Randy Spencer - Another great night for racing and it was the always popular Meet the Drivers night at Bennett Chevrolet Flamboro Speedway. A big crowd was on hand and it was extra special as the Help A Child Smile group was on hand with approximately 80 kids receiving cancer treatments at the McMaster Children's Hospital along with friends and families. They were all admitted free and they sold tickets as a fund raiser for the 2017 Daytona 500, a package worth over $10,000.

Racing got under way with the Flamboro Stadium & Speedway Hall of Fame Pure Stocks up first. Twenty two cars took the green with Ashton Reekie and Elijah Hawrylyshyn on the pole. An early caution as three cars got mixed up on the back stretch on lap four. Wayde Thorne, Ashton Reekie and Peter Becker were involved and Thorne was taken off on the hook and was unable to continue. By lap 13 Andy Wheller was in the lead. A late caution with two laps remaining brought the field back to even and some bumping and banging and it was the 66 of Jeff Miller in the lead. As the checkers flew it was Miller crossing the line first picking up his first ever feature win. Congratulations Jeff!!

The Klotz Auto Repair & Engine Machine Shop Mini Stocks hit the track with eleven cars in this one. Twelve year old Carson Nagy led early. By lap 10 points leader Chad Ditner was leading last years champ Russ Aicken and the were putting on a battle. Shawn Taylor was away so dad Sam was piloting the car this week and he was putting on a good battle with the 03 of Jake Gilbert. A caution back the cars back to even and on the restart coming out of four Aicken and Blair Wickett came together and Wickett was around bringing out the caution sending both cars to the rear of the pack. That put Ditner in the lead and he would hold on to take the win and pad his points lead.

The Ray's Towing & Auto Centre Thunder Cars were up next with eight cars taking the green. Shawn Arnott and Bobby Mercer were on the pole and Arnott lead early. Brad Collison was in second and was right on Arnott's bumper. As the race wore on Collison made his move and a little bump and run action as Collison tapped the bumper causing Arnott to let up and get a little lose and that was what Collison needed to get by take the lead and go on to pick up the feature win.

The Grisdale Late Models were next with sixteen cars signed in. A great race early on as Jeff Ruddy led Matt Lockwood. On lap 22 coming down the front stretch Shawn Chenoweth and David Elliott caused a stir as the two came together and bought a caution out. Apparently deemed a racing incident both cars got their spots back and racing continued. Ruddy would hold his lead off the start and as the checkers flew it was Ruddy leading almost flag to flag picking up his first feature win of the year.

Flamboro Speedway Pro Late Models June 11, 2016

The Pro 4 Modified feature saw nine cars take the green. A few cars retired early and a great run once again by Dan Nanticoke as he led flag to flag with a half track advantage to pick up the feature win.

That brought us to intermission and the majority of the cars hit the track with hero cards and treats for all. The crowd spilled out onto the track and a good time was had by all. Unfortunately a blown transformer in the area caused a power outage and the intermission went on a little longer than normal as we waited to see if power would return. But it didn't and racing was called about 930pm. The Late Model, Thunder Car, Mini Stock and Pro 4 second features will be added to the June 25th show and that night racing starts at 5pm. The Pure Stocks second feature will take place July 2nd.

That brought to a close another great night of racing. Please join us next Saturday June 18th as the OSCAAR series returns to Bennett Chevrolet Flamboro Speedway. Featuring the OSCAAR Super Late Models, Modifieds, Midgets and Pro Midgets. The Lucas Oil Can Am Midgets are also making their return. Pits open at 3pm, front gates at 5pm and racing gets underway at 6pm.
