Hamilton is steel town. (January '10 - the unemployment rate was 8.9%) It has taken the hardest hit over the last 2 years. Nearby St. Catherine's lost the GM Transmission plant. Lots of machines shops closed. Also nearby Maple Leaf foods in Burlington laid off, along with Stoney Creek Dairy.
I'd say there's three healthy tracks with respects to car counts: Delaware, Sunset and Kawartha, with Flammy not too far behind, everyone else is hurting in various divisions. There's tracks we don't hear much news about such as Laird, perhaps Mike Hearty can tell us.
Ontario car counts will rebound, it's a question of when the economic indicators give sufficient reason to racers to feel confident they can spend money on doing so. If I had to hazard a guess, that will happen in 2011. Car counts will be erratic for the rest of the season, except at the three tracks I mentioned as being healthy. There's also the summer - family - holiday factor to always consider. The wife and kids want to do other things (sometimes) other than be at the race track 🙂
