Flamboro Speedway Puts The Wraps On The 2015 Season

By Randy Spencer - The 2015 race season officially came to a close this past Saturday night as Flamboro Speedway held its 55th annual awards banquet at the Waterdown Legion. The fourth annual Flamboro Stadium and Speedway Hall of Fame banquet was also a part of the show. The night got underway with a meeting of a full house for cocktails and a great meal followed.

The Hall of Fame banquet portion of the nights festivities was up first. Yours truly gave a speech and presented five individuals with the President's Award. This was something I had been thinking of and decided to try it this year. This years recipients were track owners, John and Frank Casale, track staff Brenda Shunamon and Bob Munro and sponsor from London Recreational Mike Schmidt. John and Frank bought the track in 1973 and have operated it every year since. Brenda has been around Flamboro since 1986 but working at tracks in Ontario and NY State since the early 1970's. Same for Bob Munro who started at Flamboro in the late 1970's and has been also around tracks since the 1970's. Mike Schmidt is a huge supporter of racing in Ontario and especially at Flamboro since about 2005 when he first started his sponsorship of Brad Collison. Schmidt wasn't able to make the banquet so Collison accepted the award on his behalf. Presentation of the plaques to this years Hall of Fame inductees was next. Co-Master of Ceremonies, Clinton Geoffrey and Gary Colling each read a story of each inductee and shared some of their own personal memories and each came to the front to receive their award. Each inductee said a short speech and were asked a few questions by the announcers. This years inductees were Jay Hughes, Jack McCutcheon, Alex Nagy Jr., Harry Nicholson, Stan pand Jason Shaw. Hughes who passed away a few years back was represented by wife Liz, daughter Laura and son Jeremy. Shaw was unable to make it and his award was presented to friend Gary Colling.

The track awards were next up. Once again Frank and Frankie Casale did an amazing job on the trophies. The names of all employees of the track were read off, followed by awards to sponsors and followed by the remainder of the awards listed below. All drivers also received a Bennett Chevrolet discount card. Track owner John Casale thanked everyone for a great season and that brought the banquet to a close.
