A great nite for racing at Flamboro Speedway's Memorial Nite with every driver fighting for the win and the right to have their name engraved on the Memorial Trophy.
After an intermission that included paying respect to Flamboro drivers, owners, team members and officials that have passed, the FWD purestocks to the track and #70 Danny Shantz in only his 3rd try took the checkers and his spot on the big trophy.
The mini stocks had a rough one with many top cars getting collected in crashes. The #64 Mustang of Brennan McFerran held off the challengers to take the win.
Thundercars took the track for their last points nite with #27 Kevin Albers in the lead and #73 Nick Troback still challenging. But Troback got into a tangle early and had to pit for repairs while Albers slowly made his way to the front. Troback finished a number of spots behind the 27 so i think unofficially Kevin Albers won the championship. But the feature winner tonight was the #76 of Shawn Arnott with his Camaro looking Batmobile.
The final points race of the Flamboro Latemodels started out pretty boring to say the least. #83 Dale Shaw took the lead and was cruisng by himself while cars behind him battled each other. Then just after the 1/2 way the caution the young Shaw didnt want to see came for a spun car. The field restarted with D.Shaw getting off the corner well and pulling to the front with #44 Steve Laking on his tail. A number of times Laking tried to move by the #83 but he was shutdown. With only laps remaining #8 Paul Howse made his way into the 3rd spot and this to me started to kick in a memory from earlier this year with the same scenario. Earlier this year the young Shaw was leading a feature and had the same type of battle with Bennan Diderio and on the last lap both cars crashed giving the win to the 3rd place car....and readers, it played out the same...but worse...coming out of 2 the 44 of Laking made his move, the 83 of Shaw moved down to block, Laking moved up both cars went into the wall but...the Shaw car went over the wall and thru the pit fence into the pits...the whole fence from corner 3 to 4 went down..
The race was red flagged then checkered giving Paul Howse the win and the final spot on the Memorial Trophy for 2012...
They announced no one was hurt as the crowd was leaving but as we were exciting 15 minutes later police were arriving and we were told an ambulance was on its way as someone was hurt from the fence.
As for the points i have no idea who is late model champion as no official result was made that i heard...
Shaws car ended up in hitting Lakings hauler. Miraculously there was little damage.
and the ambulance was for Lakins wife/gf from stories i just read on facebook... a panic attack it reads...
