Becker, Marshall And Pearsall Big Winners At Flamboro Speedway
By Randy Spencer - One of the hottest nights of the summer greeted a large crowd at the half way point of the race season at Bennett Chevrolet Flamboro Speedway. The Lucas Oil Canadian Vintage Modifieds were back along with the Pro Late Models, Mini Stocks, Pure Stocks and the Pro 4 Modifieds.
Racing got under way at 7pm with the Pure Stocks up first. Matt Young and Peter Becker were on the pole. Young who rolled his car last week had too much damage to repair so had a new car put together within twenty four hours and was back out tonight. Becker as he does on most nights, got out to a quick start. Young would stay close. Andy Wheller started seventh in the field but like Becker knows how to find the front fast. As the race wore on Becker built a nice lead while Wheller found his way up to second. Young had a good race and finished third.
Next up was the first Mini Stock feature. Stepheny Dean and Clark Hartman started up front for this one. Hartman got out to the lead off the green followed by Gillian Hils and Russ Aicken. The three started to put distance between themselves and the rest of the pack. As the race wore on Aicken began to gain some on Hartman and lapped traffic got the 71 within a few car lengths of the leader but Hartman was able to hold on for the win.

Sixteen Late Models were on hand for the first feature with Jeff Ruddy and Steve Adams led the field to green. Ruddy spun to the infield early on lap one down the back stretch. David Elliott and Brad Corcoran were now up front and they would wage a fierce battle for the entire thirty laps. Corcoran made life difficult for Elliott getting into him a few times just to let him know he had company. But when all was said and done Elliott was able to hold Cocoran of to pick up the win.

The Pro 4 Modifieds had a ten lap heat up next. Brian Nanticoke and Bill Pearsall battled early with Nanticoke leading the first couple of laps. Pearsall got by on lap three and put some distance on the field in picking up the ten lap win.
The Canadian Vintage Modifieds were up next for their two eight lap heat races. Rick Schurr and Rick Jones were on the pole for race one. Schurr got out to a lead early but got high going into four on lap three and that allowed Ben Charbonneau and Jason Keen to slip by. The two waged a nice battle for the rest of the race with Charbonneau coming out victorious. Race number two saw Cassidy March and T.J. Marshall on the pole. Point leader Steve Trendell made his way to Marshall's back bumper and stayed there but was unable to get by and the win went to Marshall.
Intermission saw a great exhibition put on by the W.R.K.C. (Waterloo Regional Kart Club), with many of the karts on hand. Gary Colling introduced each driver and they raced a great race to impress the fans. Awesome show!
The Pure Stocks led off round two with Blair Mayhew and Sam Heibein out front. Mayhew retired to the pits with engine trouble. Peter Becker and Michael Kenny were racing each other hard. On lap seven, Dave Larkin and Matt Young got involved in turn four bringing out the caution. Young's luck has been bad the past few weeks. Becker continued to lead and Andy Wheller bot by Kenny to take over second. At the finish it was Becker followed by Wheller and Kenny.
Jake Gilbert and Chad Ditner were on the pole for the second Mini Stock feature. The cars went three wide in turn 3-4 on lap one. On lap five, the 76 of Shawn Taylor was pushed ahead by the 75 of Scott Mast and he took the lead from Gilbert. More three wide action as the racing got exciting. Taylor took off and raced out front the rest of the way to pick up the first feature win of his Mini Stock career after winning the championship in the Pure Stocks last year.
Steve Adams and Kevin Albers led the Late Models to green in their second 30 lap feature event. Jeff Ruddy started third in the field and got out to the lead. He was racing a nice race but contact with Rick Burbridge on lap seven in turn two sent him spinning to the infield. On lap 21, Shawn Chenoweth got by the leader Brad Corcoran to take over the lead. David Elliott was battling for a top three spot but on lap 28 he spun to the infield bringing out the caution. On the restart Chenoweth got good start but in an instant Corcoran got by and took the lead and held off Chenoweth to pick up the win.
Dan Nanticoke and Bill Pearsall led the Pro 4 Mods to green in their 15 lap feature. Pearsall got out to a good lead and began to run away. As the laps ticked down however, Nanticoke made a race of it and caught Pearsall but just couldn't get by giving the win to the 38 of Pearsall.
The last race of the night was for the Canadian Vintage Modifieds. Rick Schurr and Cassidy March were on the point. March led lap one but T.J. Marshall, who started fourth, got by and took the lead. Points leader Steve Trendell was second but last year's champ Jason Keen got passed and moved into second. Nobody had enough to get by Marshall however and as the checkers flew it was Marshall with his first win of the season followed by Keen and Trendell.
That brought to a close another exciting night of racing at Bennett Chevrolet Flamboro Speedway. Please make plans to join us next week, July 18th. Racing gets under way at 630pm as the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup series returns for a 100 lap feature event.
