I believe the track sets up a wireless network that the racers will join onto. On that network they can access the live timing and scoring via a program they provide. I never used it at Delaware but this is how NASCAR's system works.
I'm not familiar with the program, but I would think that with some port forwarding of the LAN IP address on the wireless router and some domain name servers pointing at the speedways WAN ip address, could be a possiblilty. If that makes any sense, lol 🙂

Transponder systems vary in communication design. Usually it's a "closed" signal system to ensure that no one can interfere or change the "count". The com link between the transponder and the host Access Point is usually proprietary and often encrypted and uses a low power signal (less than 1 watt) to avoid the requirement of a radio licence (CRTC, FCC, Industry Canada, etc.). The Gateway feeds the data into a scoring system (server).
That server than is connected to a portal (web server) for transponder owners to access the data, either in real-time or delayed.
I'm pretty sure the signal is very low power and can only be picked up at the track. Delaware's web service does not originate or even get to the track I'm pretty sure. It would be neat to be able to pick it up remotely though. I don't now if you can load this on your Blackberry or similar device instead of hauling your laptop to the track because anyone can download the software from Delaware's site.
you have to be connected to the delanet wi-fi at the track. there is a specific ip address you have to connect to with a certain password. once connected and in the program, you have to set the right connection type and the port number. even when everything is set up right, the system is still a bit finicky at times, especially when delaware changes the ip address at lap 100 of the nationals so teams cannot communicate with drivers to try and finish 28th. hehe 😉
