Wednesday Night Racing For Mathews
July 17, 2011
Steven Mathews, a familiar competitor to Delaware Speedway, will be back in action this Wednesday behind the wheel of a late model stock car. Steve, a current NASCAR Canadian Tire Series contender, competed at Delaware Speedway as a regular in the late model division in 2009, securing wins and many strong runs. “I hope to go out and have a good result, I always enjoy racing on the aggressive half mile and certainly can’t wait to get out on the track in front of some of the best race fans in Canada,” stated the twenty-one year old NewLiskeard, Ontario resident.
With the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series currently out west for three races, Mathews has stayed behind due to the large costs with the western swing events. With such a large break, Mathews is very excited to have the opportunity to race in the Summer Showdown. “I honestly wish I was out west competing, but due to lack of marketing partners I couldn’t be there. I could not handle not being behind the wheel of a race car for that long, so I am quite excited to go late model racing with some of the best.”
Steve will be driving the same car he sat on the pole with last year and contended for the win. “I feel we will have a strong car to compete with, and I will just have to do my job behind the wheel to keep up with the hired guns,” joked the young Mathews.
Steve has competed at Delaware Speedway twice this season, having exceptionally strong runs in both the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series EMCO 200, and the Canada Day 100 late model event.
July 18th will be an exciting night at Delaware Speedway featuring Clint Bowyer, Michael Waltrip and Travis Pastrana, as well as Canada’s best late model talents. “I have met Travis Pastrana previously at NASCAR Rookie licensing, this winter in Daytona, and he is a cool guy for sure, but I really look forward to going door to door with Clint Bowyer most.” The summer showdown has quickly become a race that all race fans circle on their calendar, and it should surpass their hype once again this year.

“Marketing partners are essential elements to a race program, and I would like to thank the Automotive Business School of Canada at Georgian College for their appreciated support in my late model racing efforts at Delaware Speedway this season.” If you are driven and want a career in the automotive industry, than the Automotive Business School of Canada is the perfect place to get your diploma or degree and get started. Steve is currently a third year student in the degree program and hopes to show strong results and represent the school well.
