I agree with Tony's selection whole heartedly as he indeed has done alot for Delaware and Canadian Stock Car Racing. As for Gold medals, yes it was a huge accomplishment with alot of time devoted but to simply induct them and not really think about people who contributed to the foundation of local sports is paying a dis-service to the idea of a hall of fame.
Bob Gooder, Montcolm and Beefeater football coach for years, kept the Beefeaters going through the 70's and 80's? Doug Langford, drafted by California of major league baseball, minor hockey coach and sports writer for the Free Press for years? Larry Haylor, most wins in Canadian University history? Harvey Lennox indeed?
I guess you can make a case for alot of people but as the article states "Virtue and Moir give the hall immediate zing"

Unfortunately it looks like Harvey Lennox did not make the cut, nor do I actually know if he was nominated. There was a facebook campaign led by TommySalami to get him inducted. Maybe we can get that turned around for next year.

He gets nominated each year, by me and others as well...The whole Hall of Fame deal is pretty mickey mouse frankly...There is no transparency to it and questions put forward by myself and others regarding the nomination process and how they decide on who gets inducted each year go unanswered, and the website with the list of inductees has not been updated since 2007.

It really fried my bananas last year when they inducted a hockey player who had been dead for over 60 years...I asked the Hall's board why they aren't trying to induct some people who are still alive and around to enjoy the induction ceremony.  Harvey Lennox is 80 years old...he's not going to be around forever.  He and others of his generation are the last living links to the early days of Delaware Speedway and other area tracks and the real heyday of auto racing as a spectator sport in Canada (crowds of close to 20,000 at CNE, etc...), and they are all in their 70's and 80's now...Harvey and the Tammy Ten team put London on the map for race fans, track owners, and fellow racers by competing and winning all over Ontario, Michigan, Ohio, and New York.

Unfortunately the history of race tracks and drivers in this province goes largely undocumented, existing mainly in old programs sitting around in someone's garage collecting dust.  One of the few tracks I've been to in Ontario that does a good job of recognizing it's history is Merrittville...Their wall of fame at the track is excellent and dates back to the earliest days at the track in the 1950's...They also have a couple of races each year named after former greats of the Speedway.

I think if those involved in the local tracks in this province did more to recognize and promote the history of their facility, it would not be so hard to get motorsports-related people more well known outside just the hardcore racing community.

I totally agree with Tommy.  The City of London does little to support Delaware Speedway or its fans & drivers.  It is rich with tradition in this area for all types of racing. I'm sorry, but I think Lennox, Sharpe, etc should have been in the  London Sports Hall of Fame long before Tony Novotny. Nothing against the great work that Tony did. Other than a great Historical Thread started by Shadowracer, the track or us fans do little in preserving the History.  Interstingly enough I was chatting with someone from Toronto about a month ago who was in the racing parts business a long time ago and they mentioned that London was always considered the Hub of Racing. Just take a look at what is in a 1.5-2hr drive from London. Dirt Racing, Asphalt racing, Drag racing, Micro-midgets, etc.  We really need to do better in preserving our history. If there is anything I can help with I sure would like to. I always thought Delaware Speedway should have a HALL of Fame on the Premises for all these types of racing types.
