FAN I am glad to hear you will come down and experience Delaware. The extra $20 you talk about is likely for the reserved seating section which isn't all of the seating available so unless you want to have your beer served to you you don't need the reserved seating. All the grandstands GA and RES are now liceinced but the grass areas are not. The hill is a great place to watch from but you will need a blanket and cushion to sit on or a customized lawn chair to make up the angle of the hill. Regular lawn chair works depending on where you end up on the hill though. You will need to get there early to get good spots in either turn one or four though. There has been extra grandstands sitting behind the fence for a couple years now so maybe they will finally get the approvals to use them this year.
Personally I am excited to go see some different NASCAR guys in some Delaware late models. But no one has really mentioned what late model drivers from around the area are going to be coming to compete and what kind of field size are they going to allow for this race, has potential to be a huge late model race, lots of good racers in the area.
If history repeats I think the field would be maxed at 35 but as last year showed that is flexible. The fact that area LM drivers are up against 'invaders' is part of the attraction of these kinds of events IMO. You can cheer for the invaders or your local favorite. The first Summer Showdown was a gret battle between DJ and Kyle. The second really showcased area talent and from some of the comments area drivers made they really appreciated the opportunity to "pass Kurt Busch". I agree that the price should be a little less, perhaps $30 as opposed to $40, but the track isn't a charity and the money they make from events such as this seem to have been going back into the track for the most part. I'm going to be having a bit of a challenging summer as far as being able to get to the track very often this year but where I can I will be supporting Delaware and the racers as much as I can. JMHO ;D
when mikey waltrip was at humberstone he didnt race just announced and he was hilarious...he was worth the price...i actually think he goes over the top on tv, and i'm a DW fan but when both are on I have to turn down the sound...clint will probably put on a good show racing...and i dont understand all the hype about travis p., think i read he is the grand marshall for the cup race today too and any time i've watched him on speed he does crap, but i guess in moto or whatever he does he is a big star and that may bring some new fans, younger fans to the track...and that is one thing i notice when fan watching at local tracks...most fans get older every year...
