Anyway, it was a pretty awesome show. They were parked halfway to Komoka tonight. Just loads of people.
Bummer about Kyle. He looked like he was in a spot to do some serious winning, but coming down to the stripe for the initial green, something let go on the front end. Big rooster tail of sparks and a mad scramble to get around him. To the field's credit, everyone made it through.
It looked at first like he just lost a tire. he limped it into the pits on the caution and they actually held the race for quite a while for them to get it fixed, but apparently it wasn't fixable in time. So even though he took the green, Kyle wasn't a factor.
Kurt looked like a top 10 car, but that was about it. To give the guy credit, he raced it as far to the edge as he could and left nothing on the table by the end. That car had all kinds of bent and flapping body panels by the time they had to pull it in.
Great to see Kirk Hooker back on the track. That was an awesome surprise...and he showed up to race, doing some serious dirt tracking coming out of turn 2 after getting together with (I think) Matthews. He bagged third spot. Hope to see more of the 38 in the future.
Urlin was also looking good. In the closing laps it looked like a repeat of the GCR with Urlin throwing everything at Gresel and coming up short. Unfortunately he had to pit on the last caution and it took him out of the running.
Mark Watson was looking strong tonight too until the car failed him and he started going backwards.
DJ had a rough night. As they were taking off to start pace laps, he had to duck it in for some sort of problem. They fixed it and he was strong in the opening laps but then started going backwards.
JR Fitzpatrick debuted his new LM, and its a pretty sweet ride. He got bounced around like a pinball though and was only in contention in the very early going.
Doerr looked awesome tonight. The inversion left him on the pole and he managed to hang onto the lead for about 15 laps. He had the quote of the night after beating Kurt on the outside during his heat race. After the heat , we were talking and not really paying attention, then we hear this guy over the mic going "Yyyyeahhh, we beat Kurt Busch!" Awesome job there tonight.
But the man of the hour tonight was Jesse Kennedy. He picked his way up to third and had the catbird seat in case Urlin and Gresel decided to get up to no good in the closing laps. Urlin had some trouble and had to bring it in, and it looked like the 81 used up his tires by the end, because suddenly Jesse was right there and muscling his way past Gresel with 3 to go. Lets just say Jesse has a lot of fans in the stands, because the place freaked out. It was awesome!
Honorable mention to Gresel himself. Man, he was not gonna let ANYONE pass him without a fight. Matthews kept getting into him on the restarts, and the two actually swapped the lead back and forth a couple times. They also swapped a lot of paint in the process. Matthews finally just threw the 15 down low in turn 1 to buffalo past Gresel. Got Gresel completely sideways but still Gresel managed to hang onto the lead, and Matthews only ended up spinning himself out. (I don't believe too many tears got shed over that either.)
Another honorable mention to Pritiko. Of all the regulars, he was the one that I noticed had a real honest to goodness tooth and nail battle with Kurt Busch that lasted a bunch of laps. Pritiko came out on top of that one too.
Demelo looked good in Sheridan's old 52. I didn't realize at first that it was Demelo, and thought maybe Sheridan had traded his headset for a steering wheel for the evening. (that would have been cool)
has worth my price of admission to see kyle get wrecked. I drove out to see that and i wasnt dissapointed. Didnt even make it to the starters stand 🙂 worth the 40 bucks and 2 hour drive.
Best recovery last night by an announcer by paraphrasing Hooker's description of his car as "the pits" 😀
gotta love kirk hooker. Even when asked about racing with the nascar boys he was like who cares im he to race geguardless.
😉 gotta thank thane for keeping us updated all last night via bbm if he ever quits driving he could defenatly be an anouncer ;D
