Howdy all!
Well, as the song goes: I get by with a little help from my friends, and because of them, I've managed to get out to the speedway a couple of times. (They know who they are, but in case they didn't know...I love you guys!)
So anyway, tonight I dusted off the old notebook!
For those who are new at this, I'll add my usual caveat: This is a fan's eye view of the races from the grandstands. I don't see everything and don't profess to, and everything here is deciphered from notes chicken scratched and barely legible...even to me.
So, if I missed anything or got it wrong, please write it down on a 20 dollar bill, send it to me, and my complaints department will get back to you in 24-48 hours!
Peterbilt of Ontario Super Stocks
Heat 1 - Your front row was 62-Wright with 04 Humphreys alongside. Short side by side drag race till Wright gets out front and tries to run. Humphreys falls to third anfter a pass by 66-Peters. Peters stays right with Wright till the halfway mark, then makes the pass for the lead and begins to leave everyone behind.
Peters looks good tonight, and goes on to win the heat.
1st to Peters, 2nd to 5-Mairs, 3rd to 9-DeJesus
Heat 2 - Front row is 3-Perkins and 52-Clark, and its a side by side battle for a lap or two, until Clark takes the lead and begins to run away. There was a moment when it looked like 98-Morneau was having mechanical issues whe he slowed right up and got out of line, but he seemed to pull it all together. Top three finishers were Clark, Perkins and 99-Nagy.
Feature
Well, the race started with some kind of mixup. Seems they decided to drop the green while the field was still strung out and trying to catch up with the pace truck. Beats me as to what the hell happened but someone was sure in a hurry to get the race going. (There seemed to be pace truck issues all night actually...either jumping in too early, or not getting out of the way in time...as was the case in one of the modified heats.)
Regardless, your polesitters were Peters and Mairs, with Dejesus and 24-Richmond in the second row. 1st lap saw 99-Nagy go around in 3 and 4 to bring out the caution, then another bad restart, and another caution.
Once they got it going. Mairs was in the lead, followed by Peters, Dejesus, while Richmond and 28-Lawrence battled side by side for 4th. Meanwhile a little further back, theres a race 7th between 11-Lidster, 76-Reid, Perkins, 77-Lake and Morneau. Caution flies as Lake goes around on the backstretch.
At the restart, the order stays the same, and Richmond and Lawrence begin their side by side battle anew. At lap 10, there's contact between Peters and Mairs. Mairs goes up in the wall in turn 3 and collects Richmond as well. Caution.
So now its Peters, DeJesus, Lawrence, Clark and Reid, with Morneau up into 6th...then passing Reid to take 5th. Peters is beginning to put in some distance. (told ya he looked good tonight)
A little later on there's another caution after some contact between Lake and Perkins. At the restart, Peters once again jumps out in front with Dejesus right behind. Battle for 3rd had Clark and Lawrence side by side, but Lawrence drifts high and loses a bunch of spots. Meanwhile. Perkins is working the outside groove to try and make up some lost time after the spin. (worked that top groove like a madman I tell ya!)
Not much change at the front. Peters is well ahead, and the next pack is bumper to bumper. Clark tries DeJesus for 2nd and gets into him, but lets him gather it up and Dejesus keeps second.
Final order is Peters, DeJesus, Clark, Morneau and Nagy, with an interesting bit of last lap buisiness between 51-Rabidau and Humphreys (who may have been battling for last place for all I know...the two were whacking on each other pretty good.)

Powerade Modifieds
Heat 1
19-Scott starts front row with 69-Rawlings alongside. Scott takes an early lead with 70-Saunders hot on him. Saunders gets around him to take first, and its a side by side race for second with Scott and Rawlings. Scott stays ahead and brings 57-Brooks with him into 3rd. Saunders builds up a pretty good lead until 96-Prudhomme goes around in turn 4 to bunch the field up again, but after the restart, Saunders keeps well enough ahead. Brooks gets around Scott to take second.
Final order is Saunders, Brooks and Rawlings.
Heat 2
88-Shipway and 39-McCullough battle side by side after the green, with 1-Newman tucked in close behind. McCullough takes the lead, but Shipway stays right with him, pushing hard. Finally Shipway pulls alongside for the pass.
Final order is Shipway, McCullough and Newman.
Feature
1st lap, Prudhomme spins off into the wall to force the restart. Then Rawlings takes the lead and stretches it a bit while Mcullough, 54-Limon and Newman battle for 2nd. Before too long, 88-Shipway is up into the fray for 2nd. McCullough hangs on and begins to reel in Rawlings. They battle side by side until 20-Watson has some mechanical misfortune and dies on the backstretch.
Interesting bit of business when the flagman determined McCullough was in the lead, but Rawlings didn't want to get out of line. Took and extra lap or 2 to sort it out.
So after the restart, McCullough is still in the lead, but now Shipway is past Rawlings and knocking on the door. Shipway tries high, then low, but no go. 3 Cox is up to 3rd, and the three are pulling away. In the closing laps, Shipway is putting the wood to McCullough...but still can't get by.
On the last lap, Shipway finally pulls alongside and beats McCullogh to the line by a nose, with Cox in 3rd, then Limon and Watson.
Exciting race...these guys are always awesome!

APC Late Model
Heat 1
5-Sawchuk takes the early lead, and 38-Hooker settles into second, with 20-Lindsay a very close 3rd. Lindsay pushes Hooker for the whole race, allowing Sawchuk to run away with it.
Final order is Sawchuk, with Hooker and Lindsay a distant 2nd and 3rd.
Heat 2
52-Sheridan starts on the pole with 14-Emery alongside. Sheridan takes the lead, while an interesting bit of tit-for-tat fender banging goes on between Emery and 28-Robblee. Emery falls back and now its Sheridan, Robblee, 33-Rijnen, and 10-Kennedy. Kennedy gets around rijnen to take 3rd, but by this point the field was pretty well strung out.
Top 3 are Sheridan, Robblee and Kennedy.
Feature
Starts out great with Lindsay and Kennedy waging a side by side batttle for first that lasts the 1st 8 laps, with 52-Sheridan tucked in behind waiting for someone to screw up. Neither does, but Kennedy pulls ahead with Lindsay and Sheridan close behind. 2nd pack is Hooker, Sawchuk, 77-Verhoven and 4-Zurbrigg.
Kennedy mounts a bit of a lead while Lindsay tries to hold off Sheridan. Eventually Sheridan makes it around and by the 14th lap he's homing in on Kennedy. Hooker goes high and Sawchuk dips into 4th. Sherindan is being patient, staying right with Kennedy and keeping it clean. (far cry from 2 years ago!)
Now Sawchuk is up to Lindsay, pushing him hard but can't get around. Sheridan's getting a little more feisty as the laps wind down, making more contact with Kennedy...at one point even getting Kennedy out of shape in 3 and 4, but Kennedy hangs on out in front to win the race. Final order is Kennedy, Sheridan, Lindsay, Sawchuk, and Verhoeven.
Good report Shadow and also good to see you back here on CRO. I didn;t see this post before commenting on the other on how quiet the Delaware board has been lately. I was wondering if everyone was posting on a different site, including you . 🙂 Are the car counts any better this far into the season ?
Looks like nobody else from the Delaware fans wants to post reports with exception to Shadow (Glad to see him back )As for your question reguarding car counts.late Models regular night 16-18 most nights,Specials think the highest was 25.Modifieds average 13-15.Sport Stock biggest increase 20-25.Biggest decrease trucks who this year there count15-17 down by about 10 trucks. In other years trucks had 25 plus trucks a night.Where they went who knows.truck division put a great show on when the counts were that high.
Yeah...counts seem to be down a little, but I dunno if that reflects much on the quality of the racing. Sure there could always be more cars, but I've enjoyed some good racing. People forget that three wide for dozens of laps, for the lead, doesn't happen too damned ofter even when there's 28 cars and the track surface is good.
As far as it being quiet here...yeah...it certainly has been. I think the general consensus is that things are the way they are, have been and always will be...so there's not a whole lot of complaining going on. Unfortunately its when the complaints start to fly that the message boards start picking up.
Plus...some guys seem to have migrated to the other board...and thats unfortunate, considering that particular board was started by an organization that doesn't exist anymore, (except maybe on paper) and a publication no longer in print. And that's the basket Delaware seems to have put its eggs in. I understand why they did it at the time...but it doesn't look so good on them now...just really, really out of date.
Go figure.
I'm still here but I also go to other tracks to work on stuff and I am not in a good vantage to view the whole race or be unbiased. As for the whole eggs in the basket well delaware likes the fact that there is just a little bit of control for them there.
