As a way of continuing to participate in the discussion: I think that before we rip too heavily into the organization here, it's helpful to not necessarily think of Delaware Speedway as a big block, but instead to recognize some historical context of what the present organization deals with across all divisions.

The current Delaware Speedway operation inherited some of the rules legacy issues and policies that are at work here, especially when we're looking long-term.  This isn't to throw the previous operation under the bus, but it is to say there is a major difference in how the speedway operates today compared to even three years ago - - a productive discussion needs to recognize this.  We can look at speedway legacy policies from years and decades past, but such discussion does not really provide any valuable information that isn't already known.

For example, if we are looking at the development of a division, such as the enduro, and extending back 10 years you may have to go through four sets of ownership to track down the origins of a policy (this is especially true of Enduro, but also valid with the Trucks).  What different ownerships wanted out of the track's divisions has differed over the past decade (I'm a first hand witness to the different policies that have been at work, some for good others for bad - - the trucks are the main example of everything that has been wrong with speedway policy.  Their decline and the reasons for it are not a mystery and have been readily acknowledged by the current track ownership).

To try to throw this at the speedway and suggest that the track is "cutting it's own throat", "creating needless rules changes", "wasting time on new gimmicks", to be frank I'm not sure if you're speaking to the Delaware Speedway of 2013 or the Delaware Speedway of 2009 - - because there is a big difference.

The Delaware Speedway of 2012-2013 came up with the solution to almost every issue discussed on here: an unprecedented three-year rules freeze.  The track regularly talks with competitors - - in fact prior to the V8 Stocks joining in with the trucks every truck competitor from the past 2-3 years was contacted to see what could be done and then contacted again to discuss the introduction of the V8 stocks.  To say consultations are not occurring is not accurate.

Thanks for your input John, I wasn't suggesting THIS ownership is the only one responsible for what has gone on. it was more of a generalization. However tracks really need to listen to what the drivers need and not just let it bounce off of them. I think if you ask, a lot of people don't feel like they are being heard. I grew up in a racing family, this is what we did, this was our lives, so I do know the ins and outs of the racing scene. It won't be instant but I hope the new powers that be take the advice and talk with other promoters to find out what is and isn't working. You want butts in the seats, you have to put something out on the track that makes them want to come. Food stands, Bars, Online tickets are ok but the Track and the Racing is what brings people out. I'm sorry but V8's with trucks is not going to help. In my opinion it looks like amateur hour. Just my opinion, it confuses new people, why are trucks racing with cars. They need to be driver friendly. I was involved years ago with a guy who showed up to run a streetstock from another part of Ontario, and instead of an inviting welcome, and hey let's see what we can do to fit you in here, he was literally told to pack his shit, what was he thinking coming there with a car like that. So that attitude needs to be changed, because this guy don't care if it was 1 or 2 owners ago they will probably never be back. I hope it all works out, we are losing too much of our history.

The tech dept has been asked and the answer is "absolutely not"
The engine was built in 2007 and was run in the truck series. So it is 2007 rules legal. The dyno sheets from the engine show very similar hp and torque numbers as a 602 of that time (without headers) so there is no real advantage, and like I stated earlier it would be a disadvantage because of the weight difference, putting more nose weight on the truck.
Our plan was to run a handful of events this year to work out the handling of the truck and then add a fresh 602 for next season and possibly run a full schedule.

When we ran in 07 the engine was strong, so I don't really know why anyone would say they are wheezy and get lapped. That may have more to do with the chassis than the engine. We always battled a push loose condition with our truck which causes you to have to wait to get back to the gas, which I guess would make it look like a lack of power?

Anyways, don't really matter much since we can't use it. And got a well used 602 to run this year. Looks like we may be out mid July? Need to come up with tire money now. We will see

Anyone want to buy a good dodge 360? It's on a stand and can be heard running. If it sells, we could get tires.

Sorry shifty, I've been around the game a while, and the only Dodge motors I've seen are wheezy and getting lapped on the back stretch every time around.  I don't see the advantage.  I raced up north though, so who knows...  :-

There is no advantage. It's just that we have the thing and wanted to use it. Why go buy an engine, when there's one sitting there ready to go?

church7, The reason V8 Stocks are running with the Trucks is because the truck series doesn't have enough trucks coming out and competing on a Friday night. Adding the V8 Stocks was a way of keeping the division alive and making a race out of it. You can call it Amateur-hour all you want, but it's better than seeing 6 trucks race for 35 laps.

The hope is that more trucks will return to the division. Enough that they can remove the V8 Stocks and return the truck division to the way it once was.

Like I said, it's just what I saw up North.  I'm sure there are ways to make a Mopar competitive.  ;D
