I think what Steve was talking about about was that some of the faster cars from last year and maybe the last couple of years are not showing up. I do not beleive it was a dig against anyone who he was racing against on Sat. I think he is hoping that some of the other drivers will come back and make the racing better for the fans.
This is just my opinion.
I agree with Tufast, anyone who has raced with Steve understands what a good guy he is. He is a true gentleman; and I'm sure he was referring to some of the top cars having trouble as well as some of last years guys missing. He has never been one to be arrogant or rude.
I suppose that its just easier to pile on somebody rather than give them the benefit of the doubt that it's just a poor choice of words. So instead lets talk about how much money he must of spent, or that he is cheating.
You know its funny that hardwork and experience never comes up when referring to somebody who wins more than their share of races (Steve Roblee, Jamie Cox, Ray Morneau). Its always assumed that they are cheating or spending more money than the other guy, my feeling is that these guys work hard, do their homework and maybe just maybe their good drivers.
That just my two cent worth.
Yes thanks Guys I am missing a glove
If you are going to the Enduro Challenge just hold it till then.
Hey Tufast and 42crew, I appreciate that Steve is a good guy and if you read my post, I did not accuse him of anything. I simply said that if it's not doing it for you try your luck elsewhere!
In any sport, you don't get better unless you compete against people or teams who are equal or better than you. Freudian slip or not, the thought was in his mind that it was fairly easy winning on Saturday. If you want to test yourself, you need to compete against guys and girls that spend countless hours trying to shave a tenth of a second off their best time!
Cox, Robblee and Morneau spend countless hours getting their cars better and competing against the best. They're not beating guys who are in it for a leisure time activity, they're beating the best the area has to offer. (not a knock against enduro guys)
I think if Steve moved up and truly spent his time on trying to beat the best, he just might have some success, then again, he might not! Money doesn't make a car or truck turn left, it can make it go fast down a straight but at the end of the day, hard work, time and learning how to drive is more important than cubic dollars.
I've known Book since I started at Delaware in the 90's, and watched him while I was spectating for 6-7 years. He just knows how to drive. I don't think his car is anymore illegal than others (probably considerably less). This goes for his family, and friends that race with him. Like him or not, he is one the Enduro's best drivers, and highly doubt he was attempting any form of rudeness in his comments.
