Ramsay Wins Delaware Feature – Two Top-Fives on Night
(Dorchester, ON) –Jamie Ramsay and his CANUSA Motorsports / APC / Total Lubricants Chevrolet Impala arrived at Delaware on June 18th for a double feature at the London-area half-mile. Ramsay entered the night looking to post a couple of solid finishes, keeping up the momentum of his previous runs on May 28th when he was fourth and eighth, and climb towards the top-five in the championship point standings.
After practice, the team went over their final checklist and gridded the car for the first feature of the evening, a make-up event from rained out June 4th. Due to a poor qualifying run during the rain out night, Ramsay would take the green from 18th position for the first feature. When the green dropped, Jamie immediately started working his way forward, and by the halfway point had climbed into the top-ten. With one of the fastest cars on the track, the #22 continued to climb the leaderboard, and raced his way into the top-five with less than 10 laps to go. Jamie would pick up one more position during the final laps, but ran out of time to pass Scott Lindsay and get on the podium, settling for a hard earned fourth-place result. Ramsay spoke about the first main event, “We were really struggling with the car on the rainout night, so we were glad the feature was washed out. Tonight we knew we had a good car in practice, and the only thing we did
was take a spring rubber out. We started really deep in the pack and were able to race our way up to fourth, so we’re pleased with the results of the first feature.
Ron Sheridan started on the outside of the front row and set sail, leading every lap on the way to the win.
1st feature – 1. Sheridan, 2. Steve Robblee, 3. Lindsay, 4. Jamie Ramsay, 5. Cole Powell.
The heat race was up next and Ramsay took the green from fifth on the grid. He raced his way up to a third-place result in the 10-lap qualifier. “It was a good run for us, and we got a few bonus points. We passed Doug Stewart and Robblee during the race, and finished better than where we started.”
Ramsay was on the pole for the feature and pulled out to an early lead, holding off all challengers. Sheridan would appear on Ramsay’s bumper, and give the CANUSA Motorsports driver all he could handle in the closing laps. Jamie would open up a lead off the corner, but under breaking Sheridan closed in again. Final the checkers flew, and Ramsay had won his first feature event of the season, and the second of his career. “I’m not going to lie to you, staring on the pole helped a lot, but we finished the deal. This is awesome, and a great way to get over the terrible start we had to the season and really helps us in the points. I thought we might be in trouble when Sheridan got to second, but I was able to hold him off. I had to tip toe the car into the corners, and knew that as long as he didn’t give me a poke, we could get him coming off. The only change we made to the car after taking the spring rubber out for the first feature was
putting that same rubber back in for the second feature.”
The results boosted Ramsay to sixth in the points standings, just four makers out of fourth-place. The team will be back in action this Friday night, June 25th for the Maple City Tire 100, featuring a pair of 50-lap features.
2nd feature – 1. Jamie Ramsay, 2. Sheridan, 3. Mark Watson, 4. Lindsay, 5. Robblee.
