Ramsay and Reutimann 8th and 12th at APC Summer Shootout - Busch Steals Show

(Dorchester, ON) –Jamie Ramsay had a teammate on Wednesday July 7th, as NASCAR Sprint Cup star David Reutimann competed in his other CANUSA Motorsports / APC / Total Lubricants Chevrolet Impala.  The event was the APC Summer Shootout, and Reutimann was joined by fellow NASCAR drivers Kyle Busch and Jason Leffler at Delaware Speedway in a Late Model spectacular.

Ramsay was able to rip off the 11th-quickest time of the qualifying session, while Reutimann was able to qualifying fourth.  Ramsay was thrilled with his run, “That was the first time we were able to qualify in the 18 second range, so we’re pleased with that, but it was only good enough for 11th.”

Heat race action was next and Ramsay rolled from third position in his qualifier.  He quickly moved to second, with Pete Vanderwyst behind him, but with just a couple of laps to go, Vanderwyst turned Ramsay coming off of turn four, putting both of them to the back of the pack and forcing them to qualify through the B-Feature.  Ramsay was disappointed, “There we were running second and third and I think Pete made a mental mistake.  There was no reason for that.  We were both going to get in the show, and all it did was force us to put another heat cycle and 25 more laps on our tires before the feature.”

Reutimann started on the pole for his heat race with Leffler beside him, and David was fast enough to take the lead on the drop of the green and cruised to an easy 10-lap victory.

While Ramsay was locked into the feature based on his top-ten standings in the Delaware Points race, every position he could gain in the B-Feature would be one better starting position in the A-Feature.  Ramsay quickly moved to second position early in the event, and would finish in that same position behind the winner, Vanderwyst.

The night concluded with the A-feature with Reutimann starting fourth and Ramsay in 14th.  Reutimann lost a few spots early, but was still find until he was spun before the halfway point of the race.  He was send to the back where he was involved in an altercation with Vanderwyst.

Reutimann would return the favour and spun Pete, who then tried to wreck Reutimann under yellow on the front stretch.  Vanderwyst would be parked for the incident, while Reutimann would race his way back to a 12th-place finish.  Reutimann spoke about his night, “We were up to 10th with 11 laps to go, and then I tried to go on the outside and lost a few spots.  I don’t think the finish was a reflection of the car that we had, because we should have been in the top-ten.  Then we had a little drama with one of the locals trying to make a name for himself, and I really don’t know what he was trying to do?  Overall it was a great experience to come here.  The CANUSA Motorsports Team gave me a great car, and the folks here should be proud, because they have a great facility, and great fans.”

Ramsay would try to make his way forward, but it was a tough feature for the #22 machine.  The driver tried to work high and low, and finally cracked the top-ten late in the event.  Jamie would sprint home to a solid eighth-place finish, and spoke about the night, saying, “It was a tremendous event, and I think we showed a lot of people that don’t come here normally the quality of the show that we are a part of here.  Our car was good all day, and we put up a great qualifying run, and about the only thing we changed all day were some minor adjustments on the car.  Pete got the #00 in the feature, so could say he spun both of us, which was a bad deal for David, because he was fast.  It was awesome having him as a teammate tonight, and I know our guys learned a few things from him that will make our race team better.  He was also awesome as a person.  He posed for every picture, signed every autograph, and was as professional as you could ask for.”

D.J. Kennington started on the pole and led the first 20 laps before Kyle Busch found a way by.  Busch would lead the rest of the distance to take the feature, with Kennington second, and Jesse Kennedy rounding out the podium.

1. Busch, 2. Kennington, 3. Kennedy, 4. Dion Verhoeven, 5. Ron Sheridan, 8. Jamie Ramsay, 12. David Reutimann.

Ramsay and the rest of the CANUSA Motorsports Team will be back in action this Friday night, July 16th for a regular Late Model show at Delaware Speedway.  Ramsay enters the night third in the championship points battle.
