Racing and Safety

Rather than racing, let's say sports. I think it pertains to all of them overall. Last few days, we had a competitor pass, at another track far south. I say We, because racers feel this brethren worldwide. It also brought up some concerns, on our Unofficial Delly page on Facebook. Shane's daughter had concerns, as did he as a father.

As many of us are, we are parents and racers alike. We worry about our kids, friends and family when they are on or off the track. My Xwife damn near killed me, when my son decided he wanted to race. I was never more excited to spend time with my kids, than ever. All of my kids (six of them in total), either love or hate racing. They're kids, and they will help with the car, just to spend time with their family. My daughters generally hang out with us, but really don't care about the car. Really just there in support. Honestly, that's awesome for all of us. Working alone with my sons, they will talk to me about things, they normally wouldn't. It's really like two buddies striving towards a goal.

Down below, I have posted an article pertaining to the same ideas we are talking about. No one wants their children, friends or family hurt ever (or worse). It happens in all sports, not just ours. It is more tragic, that it was this girls' first time out, and it was a freak thing. But does this mean we stop living? One of my good customers son, had his spine compacted so badly in football, he was wheelchair bound for a season. The kid went back, after a clean bill of health, and was a star player for two years at college level. I can admit, we were all terrified for him, the first few games. It's no different in racing. I seriously won't stop, nor stop my kids from racing. I can't just from the same reasons from above. I can cite many families I know of, pulled together from our sport.

I guess the reason I'm making this thread, is not to ask you to make your cars safer. But rather, make sure you can do all you can to ensure their safety, and your own. But at the same time, more people die on city streets in a day, than racing all around the world in a year. Do we stop our kids from swimming, riding bikes, learning to drive on city streets? I think we can all answer that one. All in all, I believe we are safer in a race car, than anywhere else in sports.

Thanks for reading, and hope to see you out there.
