What about having practice times scheduled before or after the Junior Racing league on Wednesdays? The track staff are there, EMS is there plus you get to watch some kids racing. They could schedule different divisions on different Wednesdays during the month. four divisions, four weeks in a month. You look at the schedule, see when your division has reserved time, and if the number of teams is limited you make a reservation and then get confirmation from the track. If the track would only want say 5 teams practicing on any one date then you would go on a waiting list if you already had your turn.
If you have them on wednesdays they would have to be completed b4 5pm as the juniors start comming in about that time.As for having it after ....Good Luck ! This past year was the biggest car count ever! I think it was about 36 registered and about 32 there on every Wed night.and many nights went late 9:30-10:00 so Wed nights are out !
An open practice night would be a great thing. The question is can they staff it, pay the insurance expenses, hydro and race med and still make a buck? Flamy has open practice on tuesday I think. It must do alright for Mr. C to do it. I would be there most nights forsure. Seat time seat time.
My vote is hell ya open the gates and I'm there.
Thanks everybody for positive input, its what you need to make things happen. I don't think the end all to be all is that the track make profit practice days, nights, or whatever. I feel it would be beneficial to everybody including the track to have these practice events. This will improve the show, improve the drivers, improve performance of the cars, and generally improve the sport.
I have participated in the free Tuesday practice at Flamboro and there ar a couple of issues, you are rushed and it is unorganized and sometimes cut short. Heck don't forget something to drink cause you can't get any drinkable water there. Anybody can go to Flamboro Speedway pay John for a membership and you can practise, its going to cost you $125 for the year and thats pretty darn cheap. I'm not sure it will help your game as the track is vastly different than Delaware.
The thought is we invest in our track and keep the monies here. We could prepay for few practise days much like the transponder deal. That will give track officials the time to get everything set up. Late-comers or non members could pay at the gate.
Just a couple more ideas to throw around
to clarify what racer43 said about flamboro practise nites...
when flamboro has their practise night there is no tow truck, no ambulance, no staff...the drivers and crews pretty well control it them selves by lining up and taking turns one at a time and each doing about 10 to 12 laps on their own...john casale is there, some times with another person and they are cutting grass or other cleanup at the track...there is suppose to be a charge of i think $20, but in the 5 times we went this year he has never charged us and i havent found anyone else that was charged...and that's not saying he hasnt charged someone because there are many times cars showup to practise that don't even run flamboro...and inbetween what he is doing john usually comes over and chats with each team...something he should do on race night too...so john casale isnt always as greed as people make him out to be.
