Let me look at the schematic from Ford.. I will get back to you
Yes there is a wire from the instrument cluster to the energize side. the terminal marked "I" is not live anymore if you removed the dash. It is not ECM controlled, so you can run a wire to it. 12 volt positive, it should start to charge. the out put should go to 13.8-14.4. If it is over 14.4, then you need to disconnect it, and I will look it up.
If you are right Dougy that's a simple fix. Hope for Thompson's sake you are.
Is anyone making retrofit kits for these late 90's early 00's motors yet that gets rid of the ECM and FI? Or at least be able to change the intake and slap a carb on them? A lot of these motors have quite a bit of torque and HP for what they are. Would make 6 cylinder racing affordable no? A FWD enduro would be a way to get people back into racing with all the old Impalas and Grand Prixs etc out there. A lot of those sixes could compete with the eights I would think.
Sorry to highjack the thread, thought just popped into my brain and I had to get it out 😉
If this is what they call a 2 G Ford Alternator with 2 plastic moulded plug in's with 4 screws mounting of the reg a test bench harness can be made. Either Jay at London Reman or Al at Baymores could make one if you have both moulded pieces with wires intact.
You would need a marker bulb with it's 2 wires and spare wire with you.
The idea is copying a test bench harness.
If this is a2 G Alternator the square plug for Battery should have dielectric grease to help cool. The harness is also available for purchase Google for alternator test bench test leads. $$$
