JWO Racing driver Jake Ott recently announced that he will be driving the No. 88 Dodge owned by Rob Anderton in the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series.
“I think that the Lucas Oil Sportsman Series will be a lot of fun to run in,” the driver from Ayr, Ontario says. “I have to thank Rob Anderton for the opportunity and I am really looking forward to working with his team and mine this year. I think that it will be great for me to get some more experience racing a car with more power and also racing with a spotter again.”
Last season, Ott competed in the Super Stock division at Delaware Speedway, finishing 10th in points.
“We returned back to Delaware Speedway with very limited funding and we secured many top five finishes,” he says. “We didn’t take home any feature wins, but I am very proud of my team for the effort that they put in. We had to overcome a lot just to make it to the track let alone get top 5 finishes.”
Ott did have the opportunity to compete in the JEGS CRA Tour Late Model tour, but the deal fell through two races into the season.
“I was really excited about my CRA racing deal that I had,” he says of last season. “Unfortunately, we were unable to compete in more than two races. However, I did qualify for the first ever event of the JEGS tour and that is really special for me.”
‘Juice Box Jake’ has had success at racing level, winning back-to-back features during the 2010 season, driving the car he calls Kermit. He has also earned himself a large fan base at the Delaware as a result of his personality and driving skills.
Ott got started by racing go-karts and went from racing ½ scale cars to full size cars by the age of 12.
“My interest to get involved in racing came from just being around cars and go-karts at such a really young age,” he says. “I’ve always loved the concept of driving, so one day, me and my dad went out to a go-kart race and I was totally hooked. So we decided to buy a go-kart and 12 years later, we are racing stock cars around southern Ontario. I take racing very seriously and I am very competitive. I always put in the best effort I can at the race track.”
Throughout his young career already, Ott has experience in Late Models, Super Stocks, JCAR and WRKC Junior Late Models.
For the driver with 11 years of experience under his belt, he says he doesn’t have a specific single racing hero.
“But I would have to say I think guys like Kyle Busch or Ted Christopher are pretty cool,” he adds. “They seem to be able to go to any type of race track in any time of car and win races, and I think that is awesome.”
Outside of racing, Ott spends a lot of time on the computer on Iracing.
“I spend a lot of time on the computer turning laps,” he says. “I love to watch movies and TV shows, and I have an interest in fabrication and welding.”
