I was very disappointed to see that the APC 300 Weekend, the ISMA show, and the season championship chases were not covered by the London Free Press. Not one word. Thousands of people show up to see Super Modifieds return at Delaware and the Free Press covers the return of road racing the Belle Isle in Detroit. Terrible.
I sent a letter of complaint to Editor, they have not seen fit to print it yet. However, it would be difficult to ignore if LOTS of people expressed their displeasure to the Freeps.
If you agree that the Free Press should take more of an interest in local motorsports, and more importantly, the racing at Delaware Speedway please take a moment to send a letter to the London Free Press.
You can do it only here: http://lfpress.ca/cgi-bin/comments.cgi?c=letters_editor OR write them at:
The Editor,
The London Free Press,
P.O. Box 2280, 369 York Street,
London Ontario Canada N6A 4G1
Thanks.
The Free Press is a joke. Unless it happens within the city limits of London, they can't be bothered to get off their asses to check anything out for the most part. Mind you, with the way their paper is going (trashy and biased reporting), maybe it isn't such a bad thing...
well we can do something about this I would like to cover all motorsports in Canada so let's do it.
Tell me what needs to be done and we can do it here.
Heh. That's funny. I did that after the APC weekend. They didn't print mine either.
I don't know what's up there, but I do know for a fact they've been cutting staff. Coverage was there in the first part of the season (just a bit, like always) But it dropped off completely partway through the season. Same with coverage of the drags at Grand Bend and other nearby stuff. So I don't think they're ignoring Delaware in particular...the paper's just going to hell in general. (Its gonna get worse too. In a couple years all editing AND printing is going to be done in TO. How dumb is that?)
Having said that, a tip: I've submitted a number of letters over the years, and had 5 or 6 of them printed. (a couple of the printed ones were local race related too, so take heart) Anyway, all the ones that were printed were written on paper and mailed to them. The editor can't just delete a hard copy...it sits on the desk in front of them, not so easily forgotten. I've never had an email get printed. Take that for what its worth.
I'll get another sent tonight.

PS to all, they won't print you if you're ranting. Just tell them how disappointed you are about the lack of coverage, then tell em' why they should be covering us.
Even the A-Channel doesn't do much for Delaware anymore. Sure, they have the billboard there (I think), but when was the last time they had a recap on Friday or Saturday's news on who won on Friday night, much less video? A couple of racecars on "New Day" does not constitute coverage. Of course, they don't even know jack about the stick-and-ball stuff, so you'd know they botch racing coverage up...
As far as the Free Press, it's getting to be on the same level as the Sun. No real content, just stuff off the AP/CP wires and re-worded "lead" stories to be as sensationalist as possible. Their 'Today" section seems to be getting bigger and bigger every year, while the actual content of the paper is dropping. If the track wants to get anything in the Free Press, they'll more than likely have to spoon-feed it to them, like writing up their own stuff to get it published in the paper.
