What's everyone's thoughts on that race tonight? I think that this series would be a great addition to the regular Friday night rotation. For a race that had only 10 cars, that was entertaining to watch. How much better would it be with say, 20 or so cars?
I really like the common rules aspect of the series. It makes traveling to other tracks a whole lot easier.
Maybe work with grand bend for a common points structure and have a championship between the two tracks for the ones that wish to run at both.
Does anyone know what kind of money it takes to buy a turnkey car, and how much it takes to run a season? I think that the track should take a good look at the series, and maybe see how many drivers would commit to running them as a regular addition to the rotation. Looks to me like they would make a good starter series, and fit in as a logical progression for the young Drivers graduating from the jrl.
I hate to put a damper on this, but does Delaware really need another class of cars? There already seems to be too many classes with too few a cars in them. Let's not start another one....
I think you have a good point ....the trucks seem to be almost dead or at least on life support which is too bad cause I really liked watching the trucks, and from what I hear most v8 stock guys don't wanna run Fridays, the brass doesn't seem to want a full race 4 banger so....lengend maybe the way to goo IMo
You make vey good points Steve. (btw, you seem to be making great progress with the LM, faster every week). My problem is that we have those existing classes in place and the unless some harsh decisions are made, we just don't need to water it down any further. As much as I enjoyed the trucks, maybe its time to move on. Maybe we should just make the new enduros all 4 bangers and they run on Saturday nights only and the V8 stocks only run on Fridays replacing the trucks, but something has to be done. I'm also a little suspect that only 10 legends cars showed up to race on an invitational.
Remember when the truck series was started? There were what, 3 maybe 4 trucks that ran before the enduro races. Look what that became, everybody loved the trucks, competition was good, car counts were great. Then the rules went in the wrong direction. This drove the costs through the roof, guys parked them and now here we are.
There's a lot that can be learned from this, repeat what was great about the trucks with the legends. Start them out with 4 or 5 races, run them on Friday's and some Saturday's. Hell, even a couple of Wednesday nights when the jrl is there. Show the drivers that they are good option for the track and the drivers.
It would be an excellent starter series for some new drivers to get into the sport.
This is not something that will take off instantly, it's not a quick fix, but that's not what the track needs. We need to look into the future, 10 - 15 years down the road. What will the cars be, what will they look like? I bet that there will be legends cars racing, not so sure about the 4 cyl cars, as we know them, will still be around. Just look at the dealerships right now, are there any cars sitting there that will make a good racecar in ten years? I don't see any.
