I, for one, tend to think that the 10" tire is too much for a late model. We've been using them since we started running late models at Flamboro 7 or 8 years ago. I think with the 10" there is way too much room for error, because you've got all that grip to save you if you bobble a bit, or if your setup is just a bit off. Personally, I think a switch to an 8" tire at Flamboro in particular would create more side by side racing. If you were on 2 less inches of rubber, you would definately know it when your set up was off, or if you missed the corner, and there would probably be more passing. And as one final point, I think my opinion on this whole tire situation was solidified when I watched the ACT race this summer at Kawartha...8" Goodyears, and side by side racing throughout the field for 250 laps...JMO
I would tend to agree, and don't forget we are having enough trouble on what we have without increasing the risk!
the smaller tires put a limit on the speeds that we run, and i'm a fan of that
When are promoters and the Tech crews going to realize that a 7" tire on Thunders and an 8" tire on a LM are way to thin for the speeds and weight we are running. I can hear it now! money, money and more money!!!!
Scott stock car racing has already been down the  "bigger tire is better road" and believe me it wasn't better . In the early 70s they ran 17.50 " tires and people had to mortgage their homes to pay Kenny Silk . Hubs , bearings , control arms , tie rods , and steering boxes all suffer under the loads put on them from bigger tires . They next went to 15.50 "  then 12.50 " next to 10 " and finally 8 " .  As the tire size went down not only did costs and suspension failures decrease the competition tightend up . Bigger tires made the slow guys a little faster but made the fast guys much faster . The current problem at Sunset with the thunder car tire is not its tread width its that the tire is junk and expensive because the former promotor went with a tire that was best for him , not what was best for the racers . Thankfully Mark Dilley has said he will correct this problem for the 2010 season . On the down side the class will have to suffer with the current crap tire for the balance of this year .
Cascar went on for years with the same problem and the exact same reason for it.
Well from what I understand Sunset is going to a recap and a wider tire next year with 4-5 tracks following suit
