The Great Canadian 200
Posted by Justin on May 23, 2011 at 1:08 PM

It was a hot and humid day as the Kennedy Motorsports team rolled into Delaware Speedway for the 31st installment of The Great Canadian 200. Jesse Kennedy would take to the track for practice trying to get his car dialed in for the 200 lap race. After making adjustments during practice the car was ready for qualifying.

For qualifying Kennedy would be the last car to take a time.  On the first lap the 10 car would lay down a fast lap time of 19.104's. On the second lap he would slow up just a bit by running a 19.140's lap time. This was good enough for 6th on the grid. After the pole sitter rolled the dice the inversion would be 6 cars so this meant Jesse would be starting on the pole for the 200 lap event. After qualifying it was time for the autograph session as Jesse would meet and greet with the fans. When the autograph session wrapped up the drivers would be strapped into there cars for the start of the 200 lap race.

A total of 17 cars would make up the field for todays race and Jesse would be in front of them all as the field took the green flag. As Jesse lead the field early on a caution would come out as a big wreck on the front stretch as the 28 of Matt Robblee would spin collecting the 27 and 72 as well. On the restart the 10 car would lead them into turn one but on the backstretch the 28 and 5 car would get together sending the 5 car into the inside wall ending his day with heavy rear end damage. After taking the restart Kennedy would hit his marks and continue to lead. On lap 38 Kennedy and the 81 of Gresel would make contact off of turn two while racing for the lead dropping both cars out of the lead. Jesse would fall back to 6th as the 21 car of Pritiko would now take the lead as a result of the incident. Kennedy would stay in 6th place and on lap 69 a caution would come out for the 72 and 27 wrecking in turns three and four. After taking the green on the restart Jesse would set his sights on the 77 car for 5th. Jesse was on his bumper waiting for the 77 to make a mistake. On lap 103 that mistake came as the 77 would get loose off of turn four and Jesse would take advantage moving to 5th place.

The competition yellow would come out around halfway and the crew would tend to Jesse's car refilling it with fuel and adding two new tires on it. After the competition yellow Jesse would still be in 5th untill lap 145 as the 10 car would get stuck on the outside and would fall back to 9th before getting back in line. On lap 160 Jesse would get by the 77 car for 8th and with 30 laps to go would get by the 28 car of Robblee for 7th. Jesse was now right on the 5th and 6th cars tails and on lap 193 the 21 would get into the 78 car to bring out the last yellow flag of the race. This would move Jesse up to 6th for the final restart. On the restart there would only be three laps to go and the battle up front was heating up between the 81 and 4 car. With the 81 leading Jonathan Urlin tried a last attempt to take the lead but in doing so would make contact with the 81 and as a result would cut down a right front tire and fall back to the tail of the field. This moved Jesse back into the top five and would end up finishing the Great Canadian 200 in 5th with the car in one piece.
