Awesome pick for an Enduro flyer, and hard to bang up. If you remember the 181 had a Crown Vic out there for so many seasons, the world stopped spinning when he finally had it hurt beyond safe driving. I say that, because he probably could have fixed the crazy thing. The newer Crown Vics, are just fun to use, and won't require much to get going. Very solid platform... I say gogo, and hope to see you next year.

The 181 hasn't been fixed because he bought a newer vic that my dad was building, before he wrecked the old one, he should be out shortly in it.

$300! You can get that back by selling the air bags and cat converter.

Yep... though older cars sometimes don't get that much, but still bring a few bucks.

With respects to electronics. I can understand your fear.

Go onto some newsgroups. There's more than a few out there, including several dedicated to Police Interceptors, etc. for the very reason you are - racing 🙂

Google Ford Crown Vic, Police Interceptor, etc. and you'll find a plethora of information out there.

Refine your search using key words like wiring diagrams, electronics, ECM, EEC, etc..

I'm not sure what the enduro rules call for at Delaware, but I think you'd be pretty safe in disconnecting the following items without getting a failed start;

Power Windows
Power Locks
Power Seats
Air Bags

The rest you can probably can keep connected. As far as I know, most Enduro classes require all plastic to be removed - except as attached to the dashboard / instrument cluster. (I'd still remove as much of the passenger side as possible along with the passenger airbag assembly.

And for good measure, talk to your local Ford Dealer service department. Be VERY kind, tell them what you're doing and ask what options are available for Ford Service Manuals (factory ones are best, avoid after market publications concerning electronics and diagrams, I've found them to be a waste of money). Here you may find they have gone all electronic in format and maybe available on DVD / CD Rom - (I know mine are).

And I'm sure there's a few Ford techs out there that might help you out too, just go asking very nicely along with maybe a case of beer...or two....or... 🙂

Good luck!

You can replace the stock engine transmission with a 351W with a c4 transmission, as long as its a ford powertrain

D-Hilborn,

That's true. 5.8L (Windsors) were put into many a Crown Vic. What's challenging is actually finding one used in a wrecker these days....Same with the C4. The things are getting scarce. 🙁
