Great Canadian Race Weekend Kicks off Tonight at Delaware
Friday, August 30, 2013
Delaware, ON
Delaware Speedway’s annual Labour Day tradition of The Great Canadian Race Weekend kicks off tonight (Friday, August 30) at 7:30 pm and continues tomorrow afternoon with the Keystone Light 200 presented by Sifton Properties at 2:00 pm.
===Tonight’s Racing Outlook===
Meet the Drivers & See the Cars Before the Races: The track will play host to an all-division autograph session on the front stretch at 7:00 pm for Krown Rust Control Night. Arrive early and meet the drivers and see the cars that will be in competition. Kids (… and adults) who ask nicely may even have the chance to sit in a race car! There will also be a hot air balloon launch before the races.
V8 Stock Muscle Cars Steve’s are Tied for the Lead: This race could prove decisive with a tie for the points lead between Steve Book (#64) of Brantford and Steve Arrand (#37) of Ailsa Craig. The two Steves will have some serious competition with Calvin Verheyen (#172) of Strathroy and Gary Zwygers (#93) of Cambridge sitting just two points back from those leaders and Derek McCullough (#38) of Glencoe also in contention.
Super Stock Battle Ground: The championship battle resumes tonight in the Coca-Cola Super Stock division. Jeff Showler (#44) of Mt. Elgin leads the pack in a pretty close points race with Kenny McNicol Jr. (#17) of Exeter in chase along with Matt Robblee (#51) of Dorchester and Shae Gemmell (#3) of Dorchester. Fans will be treated to some of the best racing in the region when the Super Stocks take to the track on Friday night.
Trucks: Frustration was the name of the game last week in the Demar Aggregates Truck Series with tempers flaring after a series of incidents in the 25-lap feature race. The King of the Trucks, defending championship Gary Adriaensen (#55) of Belmont, will be returning to competition after putting in a substitute driver last week for medical reasons. While he was away Brady Smith (#39) of Coldstream ate into his points lead with a victory. It is expected Adriaensen will be on a tear tonight to solidify his championship position.
King of the Hill Spectator’s Race: Fans will have a chance to get in on the action in support of Jesse’s Journey. The King of the Hill event features street-legal, street-driven cars in one-on-one drag races around the half-mile. Anyone with a valid driver’s license and street legal vehicle can enter this fun event. The prize? Trophy and bragging rights!
===SATURDAY OUTLOOK===
Saturday’s racing begins at 2:00 pm and highlights the track’s fastest cars and drivers with $10,000 in potential prizing for the winner of the Great Canadian Race: The Keystone Light 200 presented by Sifton Properties.
The field of drivers is expected to be very competitive with 20-25 driers vying for the top prize. The event will also include two Great Canadian Race champions: “Downtown” Mark Watson (#3) of St. Thomas and two-time winner the “Big Game Hunter” Jesse Kennedy (#10) of Oneida.
On Saturday a special Bouncy Castle will be available for children. The inflatable will be open from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm and will be located towards the turn four side of the spectator hill. The castle is available to kids at no charge, included with admission.
Tickets for the event and competitor information are available through the track website www.delawarespeedway.com.
