o boy ::)
lol...that's what I was thinking.
But no, the Labor day race was a 200 for a good part of its history. Then one year under the CASCAR banner it went to 250, then 300 laps where it stayed until CASCAR ended. SInce then its been billed as a 300, even though its two 50's and a 200...and I'm pretty sure it was two 75s and a 150 once. So technically, yes, 300 laps, but....you know.
(There were a few years under Novotny where they called it the 500 - even though it was a 300 with a pair of 100 lap heats the Thursday before)
In talking to management earlier this year, they were pondering the idea of just naming the race for however many laps in the main event...which I wholeheartedly agree with. And IMO, no invitational late model race needs to go more than 200. Go longer and you're talking inflated tire bills, and needing to have an over-the wall crew. Not worth it when 200 laps is plenty, especially as hot as it usually is on Labor Day. The best part is, they appear to be doing away with the "one race for invaders and one for Delaware guys" business. Delaware's LM champ will be crowned a couple weeks later in a special "features only" race-day. This way everyone coming thru the gate on Labor Day has their eyes on the same prize, without a championship thing mucking it up.
I think its gonna be hot!
Quite frankly, I think if they follow the exact same format they did last Wed, with a 200 lap main, and they'll have a winner on their hands for sure.
