I am a regular sunset attendee and car counts have dwindled there as well as I brought up on another post previously but also stated they are still one of the best overall in Ontario for asphalt at least. Last year, a year with a new track, was something we didnt really appreciate until now. We saw pit numbers close to 90 at times last year with this years numbers probably around 60 -70 maybe. Again, the racing i still great but its always hard to see lower car counts. I was planning a trip to Delaware this month but dont want to travel for 4 hrs or so to watch low car counts. I also want to see the trucks, late models and superstocks so I'm narrowing my options. Here's a question; do we have too many tracks or are they spread apart enough so all cars locally have to go to one track which is the best way in my opinion. We obviously have our local issue with sunset and barrie only 20 minutes apart both running saturdays. I went to Kawartha a few weeks back, a late model special; they had maybe 20 lates, about 9-10 superstocks and maybe 12-14 minis. I went alot last year and they had probably 20 more cars so I hope this doesnt continue as the economy improves....someday.
Yes, they are LOL. The Russians at least give us some nice cleavage shots without the missus flipping over my internet history 😀
It's not a huge step to SS for some of these cars. But I don't think it will happen, and there's a few reasons.
1) Tires are costly, and you conveniently can only buy them one place..... so you can't buy cheaper.
2) Time and energy put in. Some of these guys have awesome cars, and prefer the schedule over weekly racing.
3) Cost factor is key as well. It would cost a fair bit to transfer the chassis over to SS rules.... and unsure if guys are willing to do it.
Car counts are down everywhere, so I wouldn't fret too badly. I'm sure things will heat up once life gets more stable for everyone.
All the tracks we run at seem to have low counts except maybe sunset ....theres not alot of money out there ,and those who have it are keeping it for a another
day
also we seem to have 18-20 cars but we only run 13 times a year..(which i like) .if we ran 22 weekends our car count would drop
we just ran at mosport aug 6 th i didnt count there cars but they were not many ,but the racing was good as much as i watched
There's another reason we are all ignoring that is a affecting car counts everywhere; a lot of race teams are losing interest in running. Hurts to face that, but it's true.
This is a very difficult thread there seems to be no clear cut answers. As far as the economy goes you have to remember we have had local racing for around 60 years and there were bad economies during some of those years as well. If you think back 60 years to what was available then, as to now you would think everything would be better off. The 401,402, 407, high tech electronics should be an advantage. As for fans since that time 60 years ago many new activities have come into play at personal levels like soccer, slow pitch, ultimate fighting ect, plus summer festivals.
Personally I think the Canadian Tire Series came too far ahead of it's time. If the CTS did not operate all players would be back at the home fronts more sponsorship available and more home track interest. Many local tracks have talent that can drive in the CTS any day of the week except for sponsorship and available supporting team members. Just my opinion if there were no CTS you would have an Ontario only inter-track series second to none in Canada and more sponsor interest there for the picking.
I think this would have helped the lower classes on the local scene with opportunity to climb.
