I think it's pretty relative that crowds generally mirror the racing and car counts are a part of that. Ask the drivers why they are bailing out of divisions or tracks for that matter.
Every rule change implemented cost someone money I mean the racers of course. The dirt scene figured this out a long time ago. What is the common factors between cars that run on dirt. About a 90% relivant rules packages. You can run a 305 - 360 - 410 sprint car at ANY track in CAN, USA, AUST. why, because the rules are Identical Except for Right rear tires. 358 mods same thing, Sportsman same thing. At Ohsweken the thunder car rules allow other cars to come in and compete, they use weight rules to even things out, Even Delaware street stocks, and if someone new shows up your not treated like an outcast, and they actually tech cars tight. Multiple feature winners keep adding weight. You need start up classes to keep feeding the next level. Why does Delaware not have a 4 cylinder class. I don't know, pretty stupid idea eh, why does nearly every other track in Ontario have one, because it works.
Good competition breeds Good Racing, breeds Good car counts, breeds Good crowds, breeds new fans, breeds more money for all.
Personally, I'd rather sit in shitty stands eating shitty food watching great racing on a great prepared track. People don't go to the races for the cuisine.
PS: Check out Oswego Speedway, They have had a spring clean up weekend every year for as long as I can remember, they get a ton of people out every year, and the owners host a pizza party and some passes. Those fans love that track as much as I am sure they do here.
Well said Church, even Brighton Speedway is a little dumpy. And yet, it is capacity weekly, and puts on a great show. The kids are cooking out front on BBQ from WalMart... LITERALLY.
South Buxton is a shithole but WOW does it pack the stands! At least every time I've been there. Crowd's all into the feuds and their favourite drivers and all that good stuff. And you can't even see the track after 2 laps! 😀
I always suspected that Delaware, at times, has been guilty of being a little too highbrow for its own good.
Its true though....sometimes the smaller rinky-dink places have it right. I always loved Buxton just because it was so rough around the edges.
On the other hand, a packed house at Buxton does not equal a packed house at Delaware. The capacities are nowhere near the same. A full grandstand there would likely fill just the three fiberglass sections at Delly. Tbut then its been a while...I might be off)
Just out of curiosity, does any one know if the Delaware ownership and it's promoters have had any discussions with other local owners and promoters about the economics of the racing scene in Ontario. It would be a shame if they didn't, It was great having a get together with fans and drivers, but why not check out other facilities, especially if they seem to be having some success. The tracks with full features every night are the ones I would like to bounce a few ideas off of. Hell why not go to one of their shows some night and see what's happening for yourselves.
