Delaware - Wednesday Question of the Day

I think the Friday (weather permitting) will tell.
Too much "run what you brung" , I already have my points, and testing of tires etc. to have an idea what it will really be like.

Some figured out the best line to own turn 3 and 4, but there's a cost if the car behind hasn't the patience.

Have a feeling it will be more like the trucks run last week.

I hope so, and I hope the track didn't budge. If they do want to budge, at least management can do it on their own terms after a few night's observation.

And if there's till a few guys that think they're bigger than the show...well...you're not bigger than the show.

I was listening to RTR this week. Interesting commentary and an interesting interview with Kirk Hooker that sort of explains it all. Its HERE if you'e interested. Go to the May 28 one.

Basically the track is trying to use weight to balance out the field, but some the higher powered guys (some of the the ones who do the lions share of the winning) are strapping on a fair bit of weight. The ASA crate and built guys have to weigh in at almost 3000 pounds. That's a pretty heavy late model...and there's some complaints.

It also sounds like there's been at least one "if this stays we're taking our ball and going home." statement.   :-  (by someone who's taken his ball and gone home before.)

Regardless, my own hope is that they will observe a few actual race nights before deciding whether or not to make any changes. I personally hope they don't, as the rule package now makes it a little more open to other competitors, as we witnessed with a 24 car field last week.

And....I've said it before, and I'll say it again: right now I believe the track is trying to figure out the best way to undo some of the damage done by prior management...management who spent too much time catering to the big dollar guys and not enough time listening to the mid-pack guys. I think Delaware is solidly on track towards fixing just that.

IMO, if (and that's a very big if) they are headed towards a more limited late model, good on them. I think that A: the "ASA crate" should have never been introduced in the first place; and B: They should have been LLMs right from the moment they made the switch from the CASCAR style. Weekly late model racing has always flourished best here when they put limitations on them.

But...woulda shoulda coulda. Its easy to sit here and say it now.

"It is what it is", to quote the original author of this whole mess.

Anyway, just some ruminations on a rainy Friday afternoon. I know the LM weight thing is a bit contentious, but it just feels weird that no one's actually talking about it.

I can understand why someone that has follwed the previous rules would be upset about the weight deal. Racers don't care about leveling the field, they just want to win. Maybe reduced weight and a lower rev chip or if 24 guys are going to show up on a regular basis then maybe an A and B main can be tried. If you leave the payouts the same then it wouldn't be worth spending the extra dough. Although if the idea is to get the cars closer to LLM then that opens up options for the teams to race the tracks up North also. Hard to make anyone happy with this deal as there is no way the payouts can make it worth while to run to win for the mid and back of the pack guys that can't afford that. At the same time Delaware has spent a lot of effort to try and get passing in LM back so if all the cars are regulated to be as even as possible then passing becomes more difficult again. The more weight that is mandated to be put in the cars the harder it is on equipment as I assume the track will also tell the teams where to put the weight. I don't have any answers here....just thinking out loud.

LOL. Some of those guys spend many thousands for a chance to win one thousand at your local friday night short track.

Boggles the mind when you think about it. Some of these guys are bringing guns to what is supposed to be a knife fight.

Yeah but the weight thing wasn't something that just got dropped on them at the last minute. Those meetings took place months ago.
