I think common convention in the upper echelons of stock racing is that the race sponsor usually comes up with the trophy. Some tracks (Nashville, Martinsville, Dover, Daytona and Indy) come to mind as having the trophy after their own designs, but usually the trophy is produced by the race sponsor. I know in years past, race sponsors at Delaware have produced their own trophies/prizes and whatnot for winner, so maybe that's something for race sponsors for 2008 to think about...
I like the idea of the track coming up with the trophy. That leaves the sponsors free to come up with a little extra prize. We've been very fortunate when in the winners circle. The sponsors for those races have be very creative and come up with some pretty sweet "little extras".
nice thinking outside the box. we have used some artwork for special events and it seems to have gone over while with the drivers. sure would like a grandfather clock from martinsville through. just dreaming.
Cascarjr52 Im sorry if I hit a nerve with my comment. The trophy we got back in June looked pretty cheesey compared to years gone by. Not a big deal, my point was that i cherish the pic from victory lane more than anything. And I will admit the posted pic of the new one looks ten times better than the one we received.
The APC 300 additional prizes deal is excellent, as I said earlier great work putting that together. See you tonight.
Ok just for fun....
(Id started this as another thread, but kinda decided we didn't need 2 on the front page about trophies, so I'll repost here.
This is in honor of a comment in the other one about trophies that mentions the Martinsville tradition of awarding a Grandfather clock to the winner.
Lots of big league tracks have unique trophies. At Indy, I believe you get a plaque with an original brick on it. Martinsville has the Clock. Texas has the boots and Hat (or is it the rifle? I forget)
Anyway, just for fun, if Delaware was to have its own distinctive trophy that was somewhat along those lines, what would it be?
