Truck - 9, 25, 33, 88, 1
SS - 2, 77, 98, 9, 87, 98
LM - 43, 10, 52, 7x, 20, 4, 7, 77, 6
What were the car counts like across the board?
Same as usual. Vanderwyst was there in the 7x, and Thane Woodside was out in the 5 car,,,though he didn't do too well. Hooker took a wild ride. More to follow. Stay tuned.
Guess I'll just do the report in this thread.
Quick question: Where was Jamie Ramsay? If I recall correctly, that's the first race he's missed this year, virtually giving up a top-10 spot in points by doing so...
CROSS POSTED TO GRR ONLINE
Ok, as usual, I missed the first feature, which was the trucks. Great turnout though, as they started 26 of them, and once again Fothergill bested the field.
(incidentally the results are up on the Delaware results page.)
Peterbilt Super Stocks - 25 lap feature
So for the Peterbilt Super Stocks, your polesitter is 9-Dejesus. Once they come around to complete a lap, 28-Manning is hot on his heels and away they go. After a couple more curcuits, the 2 car has jumped into the fray from 8th spot, and is coming on strong. He passes Manning then goes side by side with Dejesus, eventually making the pass for first. Now Rijnen begins to open up a lead. He's strong tonight.
On the 11th lap, 66-Peters goes around in 4 to bring out the caution. (I knew it was turn 4 because of the spiffy new numbering painted on the walls ;))
So at the 1/2way point, Rijnen is well in front, and a tight second pack has formed of 77-Lake, 98-Morneau, Dejesus and 11-Lidster. it goes like this for a couple circuits until Lake and Morneau begin to break away and close in on the 2 car. About this point, 3-Perkins gets rammed by 51-Rabideau (so-what-else-is-new) to bring out the caution.
Afte the restart, your front three, Rijnen, Lake and Morneau are in a tight line and running away again. Morneau's pushing Lake hard but keeps it clean, and when they come to the checkers, its Rijnen, Lake, Morneau, Dejesus and Ouelette. And to cap it off, 11-Lidster goes piling into the frontstretch wall coming out of 4 to the checkers.
APC Late Model - 50 laps
Special guests/Invaders: 5-Thane Woodside and 7x-Pete Vanderwyst.
Your front row, once again, is 91 Brown, and 27-Box, followed by 43-Doerr and 42-Stewart. Brown jumps into the lead followed closely by Doerr. It only talkes a lap or 2 before Doerr makes the pass and brings 38-Hooker with him. Once it shakes out, your lead pack is Doerr, Hooker, Lindsay, Kennedy and Sheridan. At the 12th lap, 21-Fantin goes around in 2 to bring out the caution.
Now at the restart, Lindsay is really working on Hooker. Hooker's running a solid blocking line though and Lindsay can't get around. After a couple laps of these two battling, Doerr's opened up a bit of a lead. He stretches that lead until the 24th lap when Box goes around in 4 to bring out the caution. At the caution, the order is Doerr, Hooker, Lindsay, Kennedy, SHeridan, Stewart, Verhoeven, and Pearn.
Thus begins a series of failed restarts. The first one sees a frontstretch check-up by someone and Brown goes around again (rough night for the Brown team) Then on the second restart, same deal - someone checks up at the start line...this time Fantin and Verhoeven both take damage. Verhoeven goes in with a flat tire but makes it back out before the green flies.
Finally they get it right, and the most entertaining battle of the evening shapes up. Sheridan pulls out and around Kennedy to take 4th spot. Then Sheridan goes to work on Lindsay...trying high, trying low, giving him the rub. No go. Then they go into turn 2 and Sheridan gets a bumper under Lindsay and there's contact. Lindsay just manages to keep from losing it, and it slows both enough that Kennedy sneaks back around them and into 3rd. Now this battle is serving to let Doerr and Hooker get away a bit.
The order stays Doerr, Hooker and Kennedy through a couple of cautions: One when Pearn and Stewart are involved in turn 4, then another when Woodside and Brown get around in turn 3.
On the restart, Lindsay gets alongside Kennedy to try and take 3rd, but can't hang onto it...he slides back into 6th as Sheridan and 7x-Vanderwyst get by him. Then disaster strikes the for Hooker, as he takes one of the wildest rides seen at Delaware this year.
They're coming around 1-2. Heading up the Delaware hill the 38 car breaks loose, riding up the turn 2 wall, and skating sideways down the wall to about where the scoreboard is. This is bascially with 2 wheels on the track and 2 on the top of the wall. At the scoreboard, he gets it back down on 4 tires but with no control. He's skating straight toward the infield grass in turn 3, then banks back up, across the track, and hard into the outer wall in turn 3...Kee-runch. He literally takes out the corner caution light...just knocked it right off its post.
(If they don't put the vid of this one up on the Delaware site, I'll be surprised...and they did say the camera got it all too)
Once they got it cleaned up...and once the Killer Bees got the stoplight propped up again so it was usable (to a round of cheers from the crowd) then we get back to racing.
Green flag and Kennedy is hot to pass Doerr. Still can't do it though. then 91 goes around again for another caution. (Told ya they had a rough night.)
Final restart and Kennedy is pushing Doerr again. Lindsay tries once again to get around Sheridan, but Vanderwyst is there to pounce on the spot when Lindsay goes high.
The last laps wind down with Kennedy right on Doerr's heels, but he just can't get around. In the end its Doerr, Kennedy, Sheridan, Vanderwyst and Lindsay.
A couple notes:
-The high line seemed to be working a little better tonight for the LM guys. I don't know whether or not it actually IS better, or if the guys were just trying harder up there to make it work. I'd guess a little of both.
-That Vanderwyst guy was hot. I'm thinking he's gonna mean business come Labor Day.
- For those of you that don't know, Doerr is one of our own here at CRO, so that makes it a pretty sweet win to report. Congrats Jay! ;D ;D ;D (PS: What was the trophy like? ;))
And a couple personal notes:
-Want to send out my heartfelt thoughts to Scott Nagy SS#99, as he lost his Mom this past week.
-As well, just want to send a shout out to Racewoman - you're in my thoughts too.
