Sounds Good. Might not be there but tickets to the ISMA Show would really help out  😉

There has to be a few hundred threads here dedicated to Fothergill, and I think it's great. Guys like him, usually go under scrutiny will full barrels. He has innovated many ways of "bending" the rules. I don't care if you like it or not, I think it's great. If a team can find a way to hide something, by all means do it. It raises the bar a little higher in other teams' creativity. I always get a giggle, when I hear they have tore him down again.... not because I'm mean, but because it means he found something others probably haven't or attempted.

I have Smokey Yunick's biography, and except from the fame.... the Fothergill crew reminds alot of his insanity. Like the time they ripped Yunick's car apart, the fuel cell was on the ground, and he started the car up and drove to his hauler. Cmon that's just awesome 🙂

I agree 100% with your opinion. If it's not in the rule book......... Smokey (Henry Yunick ~ Best Damned Garage) was famous for creating parts, components, systems used in race cars, often the pioneer of racing parts such as the dry sump oil system for V-8's, reverse cooling systems, from his days on the Beach right into the mid 1980's. The fuel cell you were referring to, was a stunner to tech officials and it still took them another month to figure out that he had built 1" dia fuel lines, which could hold another gallon of fuel. The next race the rule book came out with a maximum 5/8" diameter line and how long the line could be from the fuel cell to the fuel pump. Smokey single handedly created NASCAR professional tech officials to become smarter than any other craft in the sport. There are others in the sport that were almost as talented as Smokey; Junior Johnson, Wendell Scott, Dave Marcis to name a few. I remember when Gary Nelson became Technical Director of Winston Cup during the Earnhardt, Elliot, Waltrip years, constantly poking around their race cars trying to find where they cheated. Nelson never did find any rule infractions, but there was always suspicion that those teams had secrets that were practically impossible to find. Accusations were always fun to read about in Circle Track / Stock Car Magazine.

Smokey is probably the driver of the following disclaimer that's applied to most LLM / LM rules books throughout North America (let alone NASCAR);

Any Part of the car not specifically mentioned or covered in these rules must remain stock. Stock parts are those found in OEM Parts book.

All engine, chassis and equipment changes or modifications not covered by these rules must be submitted to the speedway for approval or rejection.. No engine chassis or any other equipment will be considered as having been approved by passing through inspection unobserved. The management reserves the right to all final decisions on the interpertation of any rule or rules.
