Well said. The track needs to get behind the modifieds 100% and spend some time and energy really promoting the class. Work with the modified drivers to come up with a package and plan that will sustain and grow the class. Bring in some of the modifieds from other tracks and figure out a way to ensure common rules amongst the cars to encourage them to race at Delaware. Can you imagine if all the 12 modifieds moved up to the LM class? Last year 32 cars started and that would make 44. Now I know, not all cars will move up, if any, but the point is the LM class cannot sustain that number of cars. Can you imagine the number of caution laps! There needs to be a lot of comittment from both the track and the drivers in order to keep the modifieds alive. I personally hope that everyone can find a way to work this out. As some young driver once said to me, driving a superstock is fun, with a little (not a lot) beating and banging and driving a modified is all about driving and the ability to handle the car.

Get to work guys, positive talk only, get the schedule out and promote the sport, track, racers... I think it has already been said, but hit the bricks all winter and shake the tress as i am sure there is both support and money out there... but you can not be at odds on a web page to attract any of that money.
Back in 1993, we were the reason the modifieds come from Checkerflag Speedway to Delaware Speedway. Back then the cars were based on the IMCA modified rules, that ran on a tread Firestone tire. I think the feature winner was paid 250.00 to win the feature. The car count at that time was very good with an average of 14 cars a night. Over the years the rules have been expanded to the point that the average racer might as well run a latemodel, because the cost actually is cheaper to purchase and run than the modified. We travelled every Friday night from Windsor to run in that class. My opinion only, I think that when the norm was big bar, soft spring, 150.00 shocks, running a 604 crate instead of the 602 crate, going to aftermarket spindles, and the need to set up the front suspension with a computer program was the norm, to be some what competive, that this chassis device, hurt alot of the back garage racers. The cost of running up front is very expensive for the averge Joe, Alot of the changes in the last 2 years have been safety, which is good, there has been no money to help get the car around the track. Maybe a step backwards can help the interest in the class. A lot of good drivers have come from this class, and raced very good in other classes. Good luck.
The problem is the tracks that run the mods,delaware,varney and mosport,all the rules are different.varney the rules are pretty much open run what you brung,they run full coil over front and rear,any cam any cast iron head 4 speed manual transmition,msd ignishion,you can run strut suspenion .and the pay out 1st $350 the thunders run for more.
mosport is old school conventionl suspention ,602 crate or built sl2 isky cam and a gear rule 500 final.automatic powerglide transmision 1st place $600
delaware 604 crate or built motor standerd transmition ciol over eliminater suspension front and rear.msd ignishion .1st $600
i ran varney and mosport last year ,both tracks were fun but low car counts,at varney i did not have enough motor,got smoked beat and banged for $140 and when i ran mosport i was competitive top 5 out of 9 or 10 cars,but the probem was there was only one winner all year the very fast 66 mod,he won every heat every feature,but did the track do any thing to make it fair like add weight no way let him win and then wonder why cars are leaving,maybe because you cant win.
i love running the mod class and would like to come run delaware in the 2010 season,we the mod drivers need to get together and come up with something between the three tracks we must have 25 cars that would be a good show.
Crazylady you have it right promote this group of cars and hook up another track (Varney) make rules same all the way through.This will make this division stronger and yes run special Races for this division like you run LM specials.Run lets say a twin 50 race night for this divison during the year.If twin 50 is to much go down to a twin 30 race.Give these guys a special night also like what you do with LM which appears to be specials for these guys(lm) approx twice a month.This is just a suggestion but do agree something should be done with these modifieds or they could end up falling off the end of this earth.
