When Sauble dropped the JLM division, we got a letter in November pretty much saying, "Sorry guys, but we're moving on."
One of the crowd favorites near the end of the '08 season was the #44 of Robin McCluskey........and he was an absolute low budget team of one... plus volunteers. I believe he even won a feature near the end of the schedule.
Last season he showed up with a late model, which according to broadcaster reports was indeed his OWM from '08......the fact that he got wrecked that night (winding up on top of the #5 and wedged into the fence) still indicated that he passed inspection and with his non-existent budget couldn't do any repairs to continue in '09.
Point here is that what could have been the cost to upgrade to late-model and would the $1000.00 not be able to help the rest of the dozen or so OWM guys go up to Late Model??
There's one problem I see with that. And someone please feel free to jump in here if I'm wrong. OWM are offset, and LMs are not...as far as I know. You start letting offset chassis in, then we're right back to where we were 5 years ago, where the current LM guys are faced with either getting new stuff or running at the back all the time. We just had 29 cars show up for a friday night race, and I'm pretty sure management isn't going to throw all that away and go back to 16 car fields.
At least, I'd hope they wouldn't.

offset cars are allowed, and some did race at various times throughout the season, they just have to have a weight penalty.
Yes i agree that the OWM should have never been aloud to run some of the stuff that they can like that 604 engine and the big ol 4 bbl carb and new slicks all that made it was a LM without fenders and god do i hate the LM class but i do think that if that stuff was not to have happened then the class would not be here it is right now at the end of the road!!! i read all your replys and you all defended the track with the insult 1000$ but not one of you said anything about the part that the car owners get the 1000$ after you complete 6 races!!??? Why did you not say anything about that?? or did you forget that part ?????? Just wondering what was up with that?? hmmmmmm maybe i had a good point or you did not have a real good reason for that stupid idea and as far as turning a OWM in to a LM that as stupid as it gets read the rules the 2 cars arnt even close to being the same ! chow!!
Well sir, you seem to have the wish to start an argument on here. I have not seen the proposed Mod package myself, and I am sure many of the other members posting here also have not. You of course must be apart of a race team here at the speedway so you have had the benefit of seeing that proposal. What I do know though is that these 6 events are tentatively not the end of the Mod class. There is still a chance that this car will be back in 2011 full time again. If you find it insulting that the owner is only offering you 1000$ then what I suggest you do is take your own advice. Head over to your local TSC get a lot of manure and topsoil, then wait till spring time rolls around and get some flowers and seeds. Really like I said before be thankful you have the opportunity to run 6 races, be happy any money was offered to you. The owner of the track is not just going to say "hey there Fastracer, I see you have an OWM car, we dont run these here is 1000$" Any joke show can bring his 1987 mod to the track and do 5 laps on opening night and ask for that 1000$. Jeff and Arlen want to see who is actually dedicated to racing before they start handing out the money. Believe me I know what your thinking... Tires and Gas and tow money cost a lot. And while the last two are inevitable, the first one can be avoided. Why don't all the Mod drivers do something positive, refuse to pay the outrageous amounts that MColl charges and buy used tires of the LM Guys. I know for a fact last season Chad gave his old tires to Brooks. I'm sure Robblee wouldn't mind getting rid of the massive tire pile in the back of his hauler.
My point Mr. Fastracer is this; you have to play by their rules, if you don't like it, don't play at all. Like I said before the flower business is a lot cheaper then the racing one.
