This is your weekly fan-in-the-stands rundown on the events and activities at Delaware Speedway on Friday nights. I'm not a real reporter, I just play one on the internet, and I make no claims to get the report right 100 percent of the time. Sometimes I can't even decipher my own chicken scratch at 2 in the morning.

Hey...You get what you pay for.  😉

Shadow Report - May 28, 2010

Well we started off the night under a hot sultry sky, and with the full moon in the offing, the general consensus was that we were in for a wild night. It was an awesome nights racing for sure, but never reached the levels of craziness normally associated with a full moon, which in this reporter's mind is probably a good thing.

Demar Aggregates Trucks

Tonight saw the return of 7-Derek Clark, who took a couple weeks putting Humpty Dumpty back together after a wicked crash with Jeff Showler on opening night. Derek made a pretty good showing for himself until getting caught up in some stuff during the feature...fortunately it didn't look as bad as the first time. Derek's Facebook status showed a little thank you shout out to the Perkins SS team for some help thru the week and I'm sure he doesn't mind me passing that along here.

Heat 1
Didn't see much of heat 1 as I was sorta busy at the time.
1st to 33-Fothergill, 2nd to 56-Showler, 3rd to 55 Adraiensen

Heat 2 saw 99-Koricina leave them in the dust while 31-Howard and 01-Bloemendal fight it out for 2nd. Howard gets the best of that battle leaving Bloemendal to slug it out with 00-Johns for 3rd...a battle Johns wins.
1st to Koricina, 2nd to Howard, 3rd to Johns.

Demar Aggregates Trucks Feature
Well, we're used to some rough and tumble racing from the truck gang and they certainly did not disappoint tonight. We start with Johns on the pole with Adraiensen alongside, then McCaw/Showler and Clark/Bloemendal.

Right off the bat theres a banzai move by McCaw to the inside to shoot past the front row, and when they come out of 2 he's in 2nd behind Johns. Adraiensen, Showler and Clark go three wide down the backchute for third place, which Showler gets the best of. Showler makes quick work of McCaw and goes to work on Johns.

Now Showler's doing a power move on the outside of Johns and almost makes good on it when the caution flies for 4-Thompson who goes spinning in turn 1. Then an unfortunate restart where they come down to get the green and Bloemendal blows his motor heading into 1. 4-Thompson gets caught in it and connects hard with the inside pit wall. Lengthy red for cleanup.

Now on the restart, SHowler dives low and under Johns to take first. Showler knows Fothergill is coming and seems eager to put some distance between them, and he does. Fothergill has broken free and is in 5th when the next caution comes out, this time for 75-Depius and 99-Koricina who are spun on the backchute. Koricina goes back on the hook.

Now after this restart, Showler once again takes off and the battle is for 2nd between Johns and Adraiensen with Fothergill closing in. Adraiensen gets Johns loose and the three of them go three wide down the backchute, when caution flies one more time, this time for 93 Matt Koricina.

Now its a 4 truck battle for 2nd between Johns, Adraiensen, Fothergill and McCaw. Fothergill makes an outside move to get past the lot of them and pulls alongside Johns for second. Adraiensen comes out the worst in this, spinning in turn 4 and collecting 7-Clark.

Now after this restart, Fothergill is working Johns for 2nd, managing to push past, and taking MCCaw with him. Now its Showler, once again checked out on the whole field, then Fothergill, McCaw and Johns. Johns seems to be slowing slightly, and McCaw almost seems to be having some problems, with a lot more flame coming from the bottom of the truck than normal...but it doeasn't seem to be hurting him too much.

Fothergill is on the hunt now, and it doesn't take too many laps before he's eaten most of Showler's lead. But Showler played his cards right tonight and Fothergill didn't have enough laps left.

1st to Showler, 2nd to Fothergill, 3rd to McCaw, 4th to 77-Zagarodny, and 5th to Adraiensen

Super Stock

Heat 1
24 Richmond takes the early lead with 84-Smith right on him. Great race but Smith couldn't get around.
1st to Richmond, 2nd to Smith, 3rd to 76-Reid

Heat 2
Lidster takes the lead followed by 5-Hewitt. 28-Lawrence and 60-Ott have a great side by side battle for 3rd, which Lawrence wins. then Lawrence makes the pass on Hewitt and brings Ott with him.
1st to Lidster, 2nd to Lawrence, 3rd to Ott.

Super Stock Feature
Super Stock feature starts with Lawrence on the pole with Ott alongside, then Lidster/Richmond and Hewitt/Reid. Right off the get-go, Lawrence takes the lead followed by Lidster and a side by side drag race between Ott and Richmond.

By lap 5, Lawrence has checked out on the field and the real race is for 2nd. Ott is showing some gusto tonight working Lidster hard for 2nd. Gets a nose under a couple times and a bumper on him a couple times, but can't quite do it. Richmond is tight with them making it a 3 car race. Then they come up on some lap traffic and there's a scramble. Now Richmond shoots past into 2nd with Ott in 3rd and Lidster back into 4th.

At the halfway marker, Lawrence has got a full straightaway on 2nd place. 77-Lake and 84-Smith are free of the pack and closing hard on the next 3. Smith is putting up a lot of smoke in the process. Then caution flies when 7-Sheilds puts 5-Hewitt around in 2. Sheilds goes to the back, and Hewitt is none too happy with him.

At the restart its Lawrence, Richmond, Ott, Lidster/Lake, then Smith. Lawrence and Richmond check out to settle the race, while Ott and Lidster drag race for 3rd. Then Ott goes a bit wide and loses Lidster, also allowing Lake to slip past. Richmond is right with Lawrence and its a good clean fight thet Lawrence ultimately ends up winning.

1st to Lawrence, 2nd to Richmond, 3rd to Lidster, 4th to Lake and 5th to Ott. (I beleive this was Juicebox's best showing thus far this year too. Congrats JWO guys!)

Well as you can imagine, it was a sentimental win for the 28 team and all the other guys that knew and were helped by Kris' Dad. Darrell Lake was one of the first guys to victory lane to congratulate Kris on his win...and there were probably a few snuffles in amongst the crowd in attendance as well. I can say on a personal level, as another one who lost his dad at a young age, that being able to pull of a win in your dad's car is a pretty cool tribute.

And just by the way, how about that Jo Lawrence too, who I understand won his Jr feature on Wed night too. Pretty good week for the Lawrence clan I'd say.

And I'll leave it at that without getting too sappy about it. Heartfelt congrats to all the BT guys. What a great way to remember.

Delaware Triple Crown Event 1

Time Trials
As this is the first leg of the Delaware Triple Crown Series, we start off the evening with time trials. You can get the times on Delaware.com, but the top 5 were 28-Robblee, 20-Lindsay, 52-Sheridan, 37-Elliott, and 78-Watson. No real surprises here and they started the first 25 lapper straight up with Robblee on the pole. Special guests are 9-Tyler Hedricks in Brendan Watson's old red/blue/yellow car and 10x Gord Shepherd from Barrie, and it looked like he was sporting a new LM for the occasion. Shepherd looked fast in practice, but looked like he got bit by some handling issues in the features.

LM Feature 1 - 25 Laps
Your polesitter is Lindsay with Robblee alongside, then Sheridan/Elliott, Watson/Kennedy, and 22-Ramsay/72-Thompson. At the green, Lindsay shoots out in front followed by the Dynamic Duo of Robblee and Sheridan. Doesn't take long for Lindsay to have a 3-4 length lead, with Robblee/Sheridan/Watson running nose-tail behind him. Sheridan's hungry and putting it to the 28 car, but Robblee holds on.

It continues in that order, with Sheridan pushing Robblee hard, until the caution flies on lap 14 for contact between Thompson and Kennedy back in the 2nd pack. Kennedy keeps going but Thompson goes around to bring out the caution.

At the restart, there's an unfortunate shmozzle on the fronstretch coming out of 4 that collects Thompson, 8-Jacobs and 33-Grover. Grover got the worst of the deal on that one sporting some serious front end damage. Its about that time when we notice that 9-Hendricks is parked with some sort of trouble. Hendricks can wheel a modified, so we know there'll be better days ahead for sure.

Now on a second restart there's contact between Ramsay and 78-Watson that results in Watson going around in 2, collecting Kennedy in the slowdown. Didn't look like any damage to Kennedy, and Kennedy looked a little displeased with Ramsay for the whole thing. Apparently Kennedy was considered an accident car as he's now sent to the back with Watson.

At the restart, Lindsay keeps his lead with Robblee/Sheridan/Ramsay/21-Pritiko/Elliott/27-Box all running bumper to bumper. Sheridan seriously jacks Robblee a couple of times now, but Robblee still keeps it in front till the finish.

Final - 1st to Lindsay, 2nd to Robblee, 3rd to Sheridan, 4tht to Ramsay, 5th to Pritiko.

LM Feature 2 - 25 Laps
What sunk Kennedy in the first race actually worked out in his favor for the 2nd. The second feature started with a total inversion of the lead lap cars. Kennedy and Watson both being sent to the back as accident cars in the first race left Kennedy sitting on the pole with Thompson alongside, then Jacobs and 51-Matt Robblee and then Watson in the next row. Kennedy streaks out in front, while the rest of the fast guys are battling their way thru the pack to get to the front. And what a battle it was. Its rare to see Late Models going three wide but they did it and actually managed to run a whole lap before it went sour. First caution was when 10x-Shepherd went around in 1 with Ramsay tagging him as he spun trying to avoid.

The restart had Kennedy resuming his lead over Thompson, Watson and 08-Parker and Watson, and there's a wild moment when Thompson almost loses in on the backchute and almost takes Watson with him.

Now by lap 6, Robblee is the first car to break free and start to reel in the leaders. Sheridan is mired back with 25-Powell, Lindsay, Elliott, M Robblee and 21-Pritiko and can't seem to get free. Robblee makes quick work of Parker, and a lap or 2 later makes quick work of Thompson. At the crossed flags, the order is Kennedy, Watson, Robblee, Thompson and Parker.

Now there's some fun as 14-Emery is the author of his own demise. I didn't see what led up to it, but it ended with Emery getting a nose under 81-Greisel and turning right going into turn 1, sending Greisel around. Unfortunately for Emery, the only way to avoid a spinning Greisel was to go headfirst into the turn 1 fence. Kee-runch. Thanks for coming out. Emery goes back on the hook.

Now on the restart with 8 to go. Robblee flexes some muscle and gets past Watson to take 2nd and begins to home in on Kennedy. Robblee catches him and by lap 22 is pushing the 10 car hard, but no dice.

1st to Kennedy, 2nd to Robblee, 3rd to Watson, 4th to Powell and 5th to Thompson

Great job for Kennedy Racing! For some guys who are't sure about racing from week to week, they're making an awesome showing for a part-time team.

Also a great showing by Robblee too. I've noticed since the season began, Robblee, although he has still been doing well, hasn't seemed as dominant as we're used to seeing from the 28 team. It looked like in that last race like he might be getting back the mojo we're used to seeing.

Shout Outs

Congrats to our Pic-3 Month End Draw Winner. We, being myself and a couple random members of the CRO faithful to act as witnesses, did the draw for 2 passes for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race next week. Our winner was Dino20. Have a great time next week.

And thanks once again to the Delaware Head Honchos: Joe, Paul, Jeff and Arlen for supporting CRO and making this happen. You guys rock!

*  Shout out to Ernie. Great to meet you bud...hope we get a chance to talk further!

*  Also a howdy to Kirk Hooker who was up in the stands with the rest of us riff-raff tonight. Kirk's taking the year off of running pavement, but you can still catch him in his Dirt Super Late at Buxton on Sat nites.

* And another big shout out to the guys from the newly formed MRA. (Modified Racing Association) They had 38-McCullough and 88-Shipway's modified up top tonight, and they were selling t-shirts and giving out raffle tickets for a kid's bike draw. Let me tell you, these guys are working their asses off to make this thing work, so any chance you get to support them, I encourage you to do it. I don't usually get too commercial in these reports, but the club's sponsors are independent of the speedway and I want to give a shout out to Saunders Racing, Promotions One, L82 Construction, Ultimate Sandblasting and Coating, Hosie D's Donuts in Glencoe and Mike Laur's Automotive for their support of the MRA.

So next week its a doubleheader with NASCAR Late Models, Demar Trucks, Transmission Direct Enduro Challenge plus King of the Hill on Friday night, and the Delaware 200 NCTS race with a side order of Super Stocks on Saturday. Be there or be square.

See ya's at the races!

My first Friday night of the season and the weather and racing were great. Great to finally meet you face to face Shadow. Will definitely have to make time next weekend to talk some more.

In SS the 60 car looked like it was faster then the 11 for a good part of the race. I thought he was going to get by him and challenge for the lead there for a while but it looked like the car went away a bit in the last part of the race.

An amusing incident in the truck race had the 99 pushing a truck (sorry can't remember the number - my live racing recall is not back to form yet 😉 ) through 3 and 4. She got him loose coming out of four, got around him then going into one he looked like he wanted a bit of payback but ended up taking himself out.

The LMs seem to have a bit more patience this year then last. A good clean race for the most part. It is always very entertaining watching Robblee work his way through the field on an inversion. He could have easily taken the win but as always was a class act and settled for second. If the 51 is the car that Kyle Busch will be driving in July it looks like they may have a little more work to do on it yet. Wouldn't want to deal with Kryle driving a mid pack car 😉 The 22 seemed like his luck was going to turn around last night as he was driving with the leaders until he got into the back of a car and then later spun out. Made his way forward a bit but couldn't get to the front. He at least got to see a checkered flag this race and the car and the driver both looked competitive.

Great show from all the drivers. Good luck to you all going forward.

The Delaware Web page had all the unofficial results posted within 30 to 45 minutes after the race ...times, car count ect.  Surprized LFP does not use this. Shadow who really drove the  9 and 33 car with Grover out ?
