Wow folks...if the weather is what was keeping you away, then the joke was on you because it was a hot night of racing. The Super Stocks pulled out all the stops and put on a whale of a race, and in the Late Models we saw Kennedy vs Thompson II, plus a few other bent up machines. (this just in the heat races)
Heat Notes
Powerade Mod 1
1st Demelo, 2nd McCullough, 3rd Newman
Powerade Mod 2
1st Newman, 2nd Hendricks, 3rd McCullough
Super Stock 1
We saw the competition debut of 78 Jo Lawrence. 04-Humphreys takes lead after a brief battle with 37-Glavin. 1st to Humphreys, 2nd to 9-Dejesus, 3rd to 55-Yeo
Super Stock 2
3-Perkins takes the early lead till the halfway point when he's caught by 11-Lidster. 1st to Lidster, 2nd to Perkins, 3rd to 84-Smith
Late Model 1
Some crazy stuff in the LM ranks tonight. Watson streaks to the lead in the heat followed by 21-Pritiko. 72-Thompson is 3rd with Kennedy bearing down. There's contact on the backstretch and Thompson goes spinning backwards into the inner retaining wall behind the shed near the pit-chute. Bad crash. The car hits so hard it becomes airborne for a moment. Lengthy red flag. The car is junk and Thompson is pretty bruised up. Kennedy is black flagged for the contact. Kennedy doesn't like it and decides to put it on the trailer.
I only saw the actual impact, but the informal fan poll I did at various spots around the speedway seem to indicate that Kennedy got under and Thompson chopped down. But I can't say for sure. The officials made the call that it was Kennedy's fault. Thompson was pretty mad and talking about paybacks on mic.
Final on the race was 1st to Watson, 2nd to Pritiko and 3rd to 8-Jacobs
Late Model 2
Starts off with almost a carbon copy of Thompson's impact, except this time its 20-Lindsay - and he didn't get any help. Looked like something broke and sent him around. Same deal though....back end into the wall and boom - up in the air. All this about 40 feet past where Thompson had hit, except on the turn 3 end of the pit chute this time. Again red flag and one more mangled race car. (like the LM field needs to be thinned any more)
Once green flew, it was all 10x-Shepherd until a couple laps to go when Urlin caught him. They dueled side by side for a couple laps, then Urlin pulled ahead. 1st to Urlin, 2nd to Shepherd, 3rd to 43-Doerr.
Features to follow....
Super Stock Feature
Your polesitter is Humphreys with Dejesus alongside, followed by Yeo, 7-Sheilds, 19-Chant and 11-Lidster. Humphreys jumps out in front, but the race is halted on the first lap when 7-Shields gets into DeJesus and sends him around in turn 1 for a caution.
On the restart its Humphreys and Shields side by side for a lap or 2 until Sheilds drops back and allows Smith and 33-Fothergill to fill out 2nd and 3rd.
Coming through the field like a man on a mission is 77-Lake who's up to 4th by lap 6 after starting well towards the back. Humphreys drops back and now the top 4, Smith, Fothergill, Lidster and Lake are all running nose to tail.
Unfortunately disaster strikes for Lake on lap 11. Rounding turn 1 Lake just suddenly loses a tire, and rides a rooster tail of sparks all the way up to tag the wall right at the pit gate. 99-Nagy runs over the tire and ends up sitting dead on the speedway too with Lake's tire jammed underneath him. Lake and crew get another tire on there and are back out within moments.
So now on the restart its still Smith in front and Fothergill 2nd. Fothergill can't mount much of a charge because Lidster keeps getting a bumper under him. Finally Lidster's persitence pays off as be makes the inside pass on Fothergill for 2nd.
At the halfway, its Smith, Lidster, Fothergill, 17-McNichol and 28-Lawrence, and Humphreys ends up spun around in turn 4 to bring out the yellow.
On the restart, something dies on McNichol's car and the whole field fans out to go around him, spreading everyone out.
Now by lap 19 Lidster is laying the wood on the 84 and after a lap, manages to muscle his way into 1st. But Smith isn't done yet and starts beating on Lidster's bumper.
Fothergill has other plans. He gives Smith the rub and shoots into second. Next lap Smith returns the favor and takes 2nd back from Fothergill...and Lawrence goes with him this time. Its an amazing battle, but it allows Lidster the room he needs to secure the win.
1st to Lidster, 2nd to Smith, 3rd to Lawrence, 4th to Fothergill, 5th to Yeo.
Powerade Modified Feature
Some business kept me from seeing all of this race, but it looked like Barry Newman put on a clinic. There was a pretty good battle early on for 3rd between McCullough and Hendricks.
1st to Newman, 2nd to Demelo, 3rd to Hendricks, 4th to McCullough and 5th to 54-Limon.
Late Model Feature
Your polesitter is 78-Watson with Pritiko alongside, followed by Jacobs and Shepherd, then Urlin and 27-Box.
Right off the get go you sould tell Watson was the car to beat tonight. Whatever woes they had been dealing with the last couple of weeks seem to have been fixed because the 78 was on rails. With Kennedy, Lindsay and Thompson out it opened things up a little.
Pritiko rode in 2nd for quite a while followed by Shepherd. Early on, Box noses past Shepherd and brings Urlin, Gresel and Matt Robblee with him.
By lap 8, the order is Watson, Pritiko, Box, Urlin and Gresel. Watson has already built a pretty commanding lead by this point. By lap 12, Urlin goes to work and gets around Box into 3rd. Now its his teammate, Pritiko, that Urlin needs to get around and by lap 21 he completes the pass to take 2nd.
By lap 26 it looks like Pritiko is losing a bit of steam as Box goes past him, as does Gresel. Urlin is till in 2nd and has Watson in his sights. For a little while it looked like Urlin didn't have enough to catch up, but then he started reeling the 78 in. It was hard to say if Urlin was getting faster or if Watson was dropping off a little, but by lap 33 Urlin was right on his bumper.
Urlin gave it a good shot and looked like he might even make the outside pass on the last lap, but drifted a little coming out of 2 and that was it.
1st to Watson, 2nd to Urlin, 3rd to Box, 4th to Gresel, and 5th to Pritiko
Notes
Tonight was Jesse's Journey night at the speedway, so they did the walk around the speedway. There was also the High School running challenge in which 3 high school students had a footrace for 3 laps around the half-mile. Even more entertaining was Jamie Maudsley calling the race from the Delaware Pickup truck, as they drove along beside the runners. ;D
Thanks to Jay Doerr for being what I believe was the Kids Club's first celebrity driver drop-in of the season. He hung out for a bit and signed some autographs and gained a few new fans. Thanks Jay! It was a small crowd because of the weather but I know you made an impression on some of the kids. Hope you do it again sometime.
Note to other drivers who may want to participate: Most of you guys know what I do at the speedway...however just to be clear and avoid a misconception, the Kids Club is actually not my department. (I work the general front gate, concourse and grandstand....and only help the Kids Club on occasion.) If you wish to participate with Kids Club activities, call John at the Speedway first. (info@delawarespeedway.com) If for some reason you can't get him, then I may be able to help out. Having said that, I'm quite certain I speak for the Club in that drivers are more than welcome to come up after practice to say hi to the kids and sign some pictures.
Also a shout out to Rick Emery, driver in past seasons of LM 14. Rick's taking the season off, but I happened to bump into him in the grandstand tonight. Sorry you're not on the track, but great to know you're still around the speedway!
And a shout out to to Lloyd Rawlings. Haven't been to the pits much so I haven't got to say hi. So I'm doing it here. ;D
So thats it for this week. It's sure gonna be nice when we get a race night that doesn't look like its about to rain any second.
Stay tuned for the pic 3 results!

11-12 Late models start the feature they dont need to lose any cars .I was there but didnt see the 10 vs 72 duo
Hey Shadow. Didn't see you in the pits to-night. We had the centre break out of the right front rim. We check for cracks every week. Not sure how it happened but we will be back next week to try to make up what we lost to-night. One of them deals.

Another stellar performance here shadow, and please do keep up the great work.
From turn 4 it was kind of hard to see actually what happened here between the 10 and 72 but it appeared to me that the 10 was sending a very clear message to the 72.
When the 10 came down pit road to serve his black flag he was moitioned behind pit wall so i assumed that the track parked the team?
The three people around me all said it was a payback !
have to fly back west for deployment later next month so we will be looking for the reports each and every week..
to the teams, i have enjoyed the last two weeks, you all should be commended on the way your cars look, the shows were great, and it is too bad that a few have to settle things with a 1300kg car instead of fighting it out... i say let them have at it and get it over with!
