I don't know why you think there was NO tech going on,, are you kidding me...
They checked profile on the cam two diffrent times.
Whistled us twice diffrent times.
Took our crate bolts off and intake and checked lifters & springs on our crate.
Removed intake again check it for a second time threw the season.
Removed carb three diffrent times for them to check this season and they were very thorough.
Removed gear three diffrent times.
Removed MSD two diffrent times.
Removed headers two diffrent times.
Tranny two diffrent times.
Measured several times of chassis.
Checked electrical system multiple times.
Removed lead and scaled the 75 pounds.
So don't go down the road and say there is NO TECH going on because I have a hard time believing that.....
jworacing, I also wounder if this Bone Stock deal that JOHN has come up with is this going to replace the enduros?????
A small amount of rumor control:
The Bone Stock program is in no way designed to replace the existing Enduro division as it runs on the speedway. The program is to expand our racing community as an entry-level gateway to Enduro and other weekly divisions. Furthermore, to ease concerns, there are currently no plans to merge the Enduro & Super Stock divisions.

that's we nobody else got teched lol they were to busy picking on you!! Did they ever open your tranny to find those unobtainium gears :)?
Hey now.........come on, let's play nice 🙂
Built motors can and DO last as long as a crate motor if properly prepared. If a team buzz's the motor beyond its operating limits, sure it's gonna burn up and I pointed that out already. Yes, many DO refreshen them. As for more ponies, well geez, you don't think that mindset doesn't happen with crate motors either??? In fact, I would venture to say, there are more cheater crates out there than builts!!
Speaking of burning up engines, this year is one of all time high years of crates blowing up in a variety of classes. To suggest that I would tell a team that they need to refreshen their motor for a few more HP is unwarranted. I think that would be insulting to our customers if I did that. I don't have all the answers to be sure, but I'm not that stupid either. I just don't think outlawing built engines is the right approach either - even in a poor economic times.
I agree, RPM is the #1 reason a built motor is "notoriously unreliable." And in theory, the chip solves that problem, doesn't it?
My question is, would not mandating a lower lift cam bring the built motor in line? I mean as it is, a .500 lift cam will "in general" make a bit more power higher up the rev range, right? What if it was limited to .450, is that too minor a change? The Crate uses a split .435/.460 ...
I for one am not convinced those insane engine costs wouldn't become the norm of the top 5. Everybody who has been around remembers those days of crazy priced motors. OK I'm done on the motor topic
Listen guys here's the bottom line last year (2010) the top of the pile was averaging probably 21.300's the show was fantastic and our car counts were good. We did this on crate engines and the were reportedly untouched. We were told we needed to slow down the field so the back half could catch up and these cars retired could come back with their built engines. So we lifted the cars 1", dumped the late model shocks, reduced the rear weight, and stuck headers on Vortec heads. what did we accomplish? The speeds crept up higher, the middle didn't catch up, nobody came back and the car counts went down. Most of these changes cam after the rules meeting, I'm scared to see what next year will bring.
On a positive note I think the Performance bodies proved to be more durable than expected and I think with the way Sid has worked with teams there was some costs control there. Did the 33 car go fast cause of the body? the motor? Paul setup ability? maybe a combination of all the above!
If we have a sensible rules package there will allot of guys trying to catch them next year.
