I've run the same built motor in my Thunder Car for 3 years without any type of refresh. We turn 6600-6700 RPM and it hasn't let us down yet. You can make anything last forever at the RPM level a crate runs, its not like its some sort of rocket science of durability that was developed when they made crates.
And I 100% agree that if you did a full and thorough inspection and teardown on the crates in any class, you would find more cheater ones than legal ones. There's no incentive not to cheat when the inspection process just isn't there. The only checking i've ever seen on a crate at my track is valve springs and a compression test...I'm sure Wesley Motorsports could come up with a list in under 60 seconds of at least a dozen other ways to gain an edge on a crate and pass those tests.
You can't outlaw builts until the crate motor teching procedure can ensure there aren't cheaters. Thats why I run a built. At least that way I know I'm not going to buy a motor thats supposed to be even with everybody else and find out I'm down 15-20 HP because I didn't spend the extra cash on the "special upgrades" from my builder who most certainly knows how to foil the average tech man on a motor that cant be fully torn down because its "sealed".
we used to profile the cams but that wasn't done this year, nor was teching carbs. I can see were not going much further with this discussion as we are hung up on the crate/built debate. My issue is to get more competitive drivers into the sport to keep it alive. All you guys out there need to realize the sport is in a very precarious situation. Get your head out of your asses and start working towards strengthening the sport an keep it live and viable.
This bone stock deal John has worked out is a positive move in the right direction, it is good for the sport.
I'm willing to bet every new car adds at least 5 fans and that number increases the younger the drivers are. Loike I said if the debate rages on over motors we will end up doing nothing.
jworacing, I also wounder if this Bone Stock deal that JOHN has come up with is this going to replace the enduros????? It makes me think that delaware is going to slowly work to get rid of the difference between enduro and SS. IF this is the case not sure its going to help out much because I know that are 2 enduro teams run on a low budget. But also not sure if we want to run rice burners. I love runiing my 1981 Regal. But shit its not even close to a SS. Whats your thoughts on this.?????????

Was up at Brighton this weekend, and it was great to see guys passing each other in the corners (yes it's dirt but still). Only few beefs I have with Delly is we need more concrete added to the corners (a second groove), and the food still not very good. Food is tough when you run once a week, so on. I understand it, and it is easier to keep food frozen untill you need it. I worked in restaurants for years when I was younger, and also when my divorce happened to dig out from the fallout of that. There are many key things there, but it would take me three pages....
1) look at a second groove repair cheapy job
2) spend the time, hire a kitchen manager, or give him more budget... you will sell more food it is a higher quality.
The best food at any Track is Varney hands down, I like the Delaware hotdogs as they are Shopsy's.
As far as mini cars replacing replacing the enduros...I don't think so why? as long as there is cars willing to run then the division will be viable. However the division has a few way overbuilt and was allowed to get way out of hand. Just my opinion not necessarily shared by anybody else.
My thought is Delaware lacks a feeder series that is comparable with other tracks, which is of course the minis. Want to do some simple research? just look at Kijiji you will see what's available for cars. I know racing costs money yada yada yada. But hey we need new people on both sides of the fence!!! Keep the thing relevant. a kid wants to try his hand at racing where's he gunna get a camaro? But his aunt is going to buy herself a new car so she gives himm her old FWD thing-ma-bob, they ain't worth squat on a trade in. Failing that $300 bucks and you got one. Anyway you get the idea, keep new people interested and the sport will self perpetuate. Keep the guys from blowing open lower divisions with killer cars and there will be somewhere to grow into. I think we all went nuts before the last recession and money became no object, welcome to 2012 and see the writing on the wall...Kevin Harvick did
