Bending the rules or "cheating" as some people would call is a "part of racing." Everyone does it to a certain degree. You see what separates a good driver aside from the rest, is if he can bend the rules and not get caught. Powell didn't do anything that the other drivers didn't do.....he cheated except he got caught!

we have a slight problem here with crates. rule book says motor must remain as it came from gm. once that motor is opened up and rebuilt it should then fall under the built motor weight. these motors are getting bored to 30 over, heads are being milled, 5 angle valve job and i have heard from a good source that any after market piston because factory gm ones are to expensive. they are also getting rebalanced, better than what gm does. cams are being degreed in. all this adds up to a big advantage when you are giving them a weight break. how come some of this can figure this out but track tech can not ?

You're missing something here, the way they are running them down there, they aren't assuming the crates are sealed, they are running the ASA style crate program, HUGE difference.

What track are you at that doesn't worry about opening them up? At Delaware if it's ASA spec it's the same weight as a built motor. I think it's stupid anyways, the motors are so cheap there shouldn't be ANY rebuilding of them, if they aren't how they left the factory, it's illegal, is how it should be, it just comes down to how much the tech shed wants to police things.
