In general, I can speak to Barrie's Whelen All-American Nascar series. I race Thunder Car (sorta like the Super Stocks at Delaware, but not quite. We run builts with a little less HP than the 602, Automatics (almost exclusively Powerglides) instead of the 4 speed etc...).
We are not a travelling series, we race exclusively at Barrie, except for Invitationals or a trip or two down to Sunset on an off night.
Our regular car counts are in my estimate on any given night...
18 - 19 LLM
23 - 26 TC
Probably 25-30 Pure Stocks and the same in Chargers. We have so many mini-stocks that last year they split the division, cars are exactly the same rules, drivers with less experience go to the Charger class.
Barrie has new owners this year this is true. While there has been some difficulties with the management and some decisions this year (which they are the first to admit, and are working hard to sort out the problems typical of new management) the one area mentioned that they excel at is marketing. They do a spectacular job at that. We have many speedway sponsors and every night is sponsored, in fact the Thunder Car class had a new sponsor step in mid way in the season when the original sponsor, I believe, ceased to be in business. The facility was in top shape when the previous owners sold it and the new owners have continued to invest money in the facility.
That being said it is a much more business like atmosphere this year. I attended Delaware last year and enjoyed myself, and actually thought that the facilities were pretty close to Barrie's, the racing was excellent (those trucks were the coolest) and the track was fast.
Unfortunately it is also a 6 hour round trip without a trailer on the back too...
well i agree completely re car counts and purse money's, what is the regular payout for thunder car/super stocks (or any division) at participating speedways? the modifieds i love watching, they put on an awesome show especially at varney, but there isn't many new drivers getting involved in this division, anyone have a theory? ???
