Some of my observations:
The field - 42 cars showed up, most of which being actual late models. I thought we were going to crack 50 cars, but from what everyone was saying about Flamboro last night, I understand why some guys couldn't make it.
Gary Elliott - Major major congrats to the 36 team for making it out at all, much less bringing a competitive piece to the track after all they went through.
Terry Jones - The year of ARCA Terry ran since last year worked out well, as he looked as good as I've seen him in recent memory. Nice work starting outside pole for the WWS 75-lapper, and hanging on for dear life. It made for a good show.
Brian Mercer - Best "invader" of the day, 3rd in the WWS 75 and 10th (I believe) in the feature.
Delaware 75 - Very, very tame. Neat how the track title came down to one position on track, although I don't think Dion's going to be giving Tyler Brown a Christmas card anytime soon (If I recall correctly....) Everyone in the top-12 or so were dead even, so it made for a tough show to pass in. Congrats to Ron Sheridan on the win.
WWS 75 - The mix of speeds of cars made for an interesting show. Some interesting moments with fighting in traffic, and a good run for Steve Robblee. Tough luck for Scott MacGillvary and Steven Richmond, as well as Mark Hickson (Never really found out what went wrong there). Congrats to Pete Vanderwyst for the win.
150-lap Main Event: One of the most exciting races I've seen in a long time, once the first 40 laps or so got in the books. Disappointing that some big names (Shaw, Robblee, Campbell, Jones, D. Elliott) went out early, but a lot of guys seemed to have mechanical issues. Bad luck for Jamie Ramsay and Jay Doerr as well. Some of the lappers made things interesting, and some of the passes in traffic were great. Out of the front runners, DJ had some of the best luck using the bump 'n run to move up through the pack. Nice driving by Kennedy to hold on for the win.
I have no idea how Saturday went, but Friday and Sunday made this one of the best weekends I've ever seen at any track...
Great race it was a truely awsome. it was Cole Pearn that was racing Dion hard in the Delaware 75 lapper, but a great day and great racing.
Yeah, that was good racing between the 77 and the 6. What I was referring to was when Dion got side-by-side with Pearn off 2 and got held up by either the 91 or 99, which let Pearn back in front, which potentially was the deciding factor in the championship...
I'm surprised it took DJ so long before he decided to lay the bumper on that #21 car. He's just lucky that it was DJ, cause anyone else would've stuffed him for screwing him over so badly.
Thought it was cool to see Kennedy win it, but I think DJ had a less used up car at the end, and he probably could've got him with a few more laps.
heh. Well. Delaware on Friday, Cayuga on Saturday, back to Delaware today...I figured I'd let the Mrs have a little of my time this evening. Hence no report. (She deserves it for putting up with all my track-trotting lately.)
I'll do a writeup tomorrow. And please, give delaware.com a break. That's pretty much a one man show, and that one man worked his ass off this weekend.
A few things. First, it is so AWESOME to see Jesse Kennedy wrap up the season like this. I've been watching this guy for probably over 20 years, and he's earned a big day like that. In the closing laps I was having Bill Rowse flashbacks, just waiting for god-knows-what to happen, but DJ ran him a good race at the end. I couldn't be happier.
Shout out to our own racer43...bad luck man, sorry you had a rough day. Hope its not bent up too badly.
To all the visiting teams who made the haul...Thank You so much for coming down. The fans in the stands truly appreciate the efforts you put into making the APC 300 a success.
To Stephen Richmond, great job out there in the 2nd 75. Too bad machanical woes kept you out of the main event. Stephen actually had a good little battle with Mike Hryniuk.
And a big thanks as well to the guys who put some bucks in the hat for our "Matts fund" collection. There were some donations made in a couple different areas, and its yet to be put all together, but we'll get that to Racewoman ASAP. I'm not sure what the ettiquette would be here for attaching names to the donations, but suffice to say, many of the regular posters here on the Delaware forum helped out. Thanks guys.
Thats it for now. Heck, most of the main stuff has been covered already by the rest of you guys. But we'll get a report up soon.
