The 71 SS is for sale because the owner is once again out of work due to the economy 2x in 3 years. It takes a fair bit of money to build, maintain and race one of these cars, and unfortunately the money gods haven't been kind over the last 3 years.

I was hoping by this year to be building a Mod, as that is really where I have wanted to race for the last 7 years or be building a new Metric SS from scratch.

The car is a good solid car with all the good stuff (it comes out of the same shop as the 28 and 77 SS) and all these cars run basically the same stuff. This being metric it has the fun metric 9” 3-link rear in it in load springs.

The engine as said is one night old and has been dyno’d by Saunders and put out some really good #’s.

For $7000obo for the car/trailer your getting something you can’t build. I think the 2 is more than a fair price, likely too low and the 11 and 77 would likely go for low teens if they were to sell car  and that would be at the end of the season for low teens.

Price wise by the time you by a 602, carb, spacer, headers, pullies, started, water pump, fan, fuel pump, braided lines your gonna be over $4000 and don’t forget the taxes.
Build a rear 9” or GM with Mark Williams axles or other after market, a spool or mini spool, and a gear set, do the brakes etc, these is $1500.
Don’t forget a full containment seat $450ish,
All the body panels noses bumpers etc. $500 - $1000.
Rims $50+
Fire System $100
Trans mission, bell housing, drive shaft ?
Window $200+
Collapsible steering column $100+
Hydralic Clutch and after market brake master ?
Front brakes rotors, pads, calipers and cooling ducts ?
Fuel cell, mirrors, roll bar padding, peddel set, shifter, rev limiter, plugs, wires, electrical switches, gages, upper control arms, springs, shocks, etc, etc, etc.
All that and you still have to source a car, gut it, build a roll cage add all the tin, hang the body , paint , and all that stuff.

I can tell you it’s cheaper to buy a built car in SS then build one hands down.

I'll tell after having built three winning cars (althuogh not championships) It's impossible to get your man hours out of the project. The hundreds of hours are a loss or "for the love of the sport" If I new how long the "Not easy being Green Camaro" was going to take I'd a bought the 84 Camaro off of J.R. The darn thing was in our shop and we did allot of work on it. These cars are no longer stock and are real race cars, going racing for under 10K thats a bargain anyway you slice it

Everything is usually for sale when it comes to racing i would presume. If I built any rides worth a grain of salt, I wouldn't mind selling them for the right price either. When we ran rally racing, it was the same way with that division too. As soon as points were finalized, half the field was selling/posting ads for their rides. A lot of that comes from people wanting to build others, or some just curious as to what others feel their ride is worth.
