Race for the Cure Sportsman Series highlights season opener at Cornwall Motor Speedway!
Cornwall, Ont –Sunday, May 11, 2016 – Martin Bélanger – The countdown is over for the 2016 season opener at the Cornwall Motor Speedway as the first round of the Race for the Cure Sportsman Series will highlight the evening with a 100-lap event this coming Sunday evening at 7pm.
Successful Test and Tune !
A gorgeous Tuesday evening greeted over 50 drivers in the first Test and Tune event scheduled at the speedway in years, promising numbers in Pro-Stock, Sportsman and Modified division with double digits appearances in the 3 DIRTcar classes. Track surface was really good as some Modified drivers approached the 12-second barrier.
A great Sportsman field expected
The new Race for the Cure Sportsman Series that is starting this Sunday and has shown a lot of interest amongst the drivers such as former Sportsman Challenge champion, Martin Pelletier. Local runners will want to have a word as well in this championship with Shane Pecore, Ryan Stabler, Justin Lalancette and several other in the hunt as well. With the race winner receiving $2,000 and points funds and prizes for perfect attendance well over $11,000, a great field is expected.
Regular program in other divisions
The Bandit Motorsports Modified category will have a 30-lap program to start the season, the championship race will be quite interesting with a healthy and talented field on a weekly basis with new regulars such as Mario Clair, Joel Doiron, Bobby Herrington, Marc Therrien and two new rookies in Corey Wheeler and Joey Ladouceur. These 6 drivers will make a run against track champion Carey Terrance along with Stephane Lafrance, Chris Raabe, Brian McDonald, Gabriel Richer, Gage Morin and company.
The Alexandria Home Hardware Pro-Stock championship should be heated as well with many contenders such as Rock Aubin, Ghislain Valade, Stéphane Lebrun, CD Beauchamp and others. They will have a 20-lap race. The new Polar Sound DJ Services Novice Sportsman division should be good as five runners were at practice and they looked pretty good on the speedway. Marc Dagenais and Bob Ray should have a good run at the point’s title in the Polar Sound DJ Services Mini-Stock.
The pit gates will open at 4pm and costs will be 30$ in the pit area. General admission will open its doors at 5pm and costs will be $20 for adults, 10$ for seniors and only 2$ for 16 years old and younger. Time trials are schedule for 6:30pm and first heat will be run at 7pm sharp.
