Only 6 weeks away from opening night at Cornwall Motor Speedway!
Cornwall, Ont – Tuesday, April 5, 2016, Martin Bélanger – Spring is upon us as we are only 6 weeks away from the start of the next season! Here are some news and notes about the upcoming season at Cornwall Motor Speedway.
2015 Banquet
The champions of 2015 were celebrated last Saturday as more than 240 guests gathered in the Township Hall in South-Stormont. Track champions as well as some local series received trophies, prizes and awards during a great evening. Rick Young was the recipient of the Mitch Jock Award for his contribution to the sport over the years and Gilles Godard left with the Ron Morin Award for his efforts in helping the Cornwall racing community.
Test and Tune added to the schedule
A Test and Tune session was added by promoter Raymond Lavergne on Tuesday, May 10th at 6:30pm all regular divisions as well as other categories are invited to come and practice, pre-tech and pre-registration will also be done during that evening. Admission price will determined and announced in the coming days.
Car-Show around the corner
Cornwall Motor Speedway will be present at the Cornwall Square from Thursday, April 14 to Saturday, April 16th with a few cars on display. We have teamed up with Mohawk International Raceway for this event. An information booth along with staff will be there during the 3 days to answer all your questions about upcoming season. Come and pick up your 2016 schedule, you might have a chance to win a few prizes!
Work, work, work!
The work being accomplished at the speedway is getting into the final phase! The sprint has started towards May 15th, cement is being poured at the bottom of the stands to enable the installation of the final 2 rows. A new fence will also be installed in the coming weeks behind the tower as the new grandstands have changed the layout especially behind turn 1.
The former stands that were on top of turn 4 will become the new grand stand in the pits, they will be sitting on a new cement pad and will allow more people to sit and enjoy the races for this area. Raymond Lavergne stated that a total of 17 workers were at the speedway on this Tuesday to get as much work possible!
Bonus Program is on a roll!
Announced at the banquet, the Drivers Bonus Program is back for 2016 with more than $20,000 in prize and money collected and given back to drivers via several different bonus. Over $6,000 was added in the program compared to 2015. All the details will be announced shortly in a separate release.
With less than 6 weeks before the start of 2016, we can expect great announcements about the upcoming summer, new stands, new series, and bonus program and great racing…we cannot ask for anything better!
