Mario Clair wins round #2 of the Canadian Nationals as CD Beauchamp victorious in the DIRTcar Pro-Stock Series in Cornwall!
Cornwall, Ont – Sunday, July 31, 2016 – Martin Bélanger – One of thew biggest night of the season occurred at Cornwall Motor Speedway as round #2 of the Bandit Motorsports Canadian Nationals for Modifieds along with a DIRTcar Pro-Stock Series race a complete race program sponsored by Westfront Construction.
Erick Rudolph took the early lead in the 125-lap Canadian Nationals feature over Gage Morin and Michael Parent. Rudolph reached slower cars on lap 10 as Mario Clair was on the move as he passed both Parent and Morin and was chasing Rudolph by lap 20. Danny O’Brien made his way to third with 30 laps in the books as the feature picked up some great momentum. The top 3 drivers were running together by lap 50 as Rudolph manoeuvred well in lap traffic. As the feature gone up to lap 83 as Gabriel Richer slowed the field down.
The feature started back on lap 91 as only 1 lap was done with Zach Aubertine stopping in turn 2. Mario Clair had a great restart on lap 94 and took the lead. As Clair was in the lead, Carey Terrance made his way to third and challenged Rudolph for second with 10 laps to go. Clair led the final laps and went on to win his first feature of the season in front of Rudolph and Terrance.
In the DIRTcar Pro-Stock Series feature, Justin Desrosiers took the lead over Kevin Fetterly and CD Beauchamp. On a lap 7 restart, Dave Bissonnette made his way to second and challenged Desrosiers. A lap car came into factor as Beauchamp made a great move to take the lead on lap 18 as caution came out 2 laps later for Riley McMonagle. Beauchamp in the lead at the restart and led the way at halfway point over Bissonnette and Ghislain Valade now in the mix. Running the inside lane, Valade was able to pass Bissonnette for second on lap 28 as Stephane Lebrun followed suit and took third with Bissonnette fading to fourth. While Beauchamp was running in front, Lebrun passed Valade for second as the top 3 positions remained unchanged as Beauchamp went on to win his first ever DIRTcar Pro-Stock series race.
The Tracy Wheeler Storm Realty 25-lap event saw Gabriel Cyr leading when a big accident occurred on the first lap, several cars sustained heavy damage but everyone was ok. On the restart, Cyr stayed but first but had company in Shane Pecore as he became the new leader on lap 7. Pecore led the final portion of the event and captured his third win of the season.
In the 15-lap Polar Sound Novice Sportsman, Brent Lozo leads the first 4 laps as Chris Zieren is able to pass him and Zieren never looked back to lead the final portion and won a second feature this season.
Steven Quesnel led the field in the 12-lap Polar Sound DJ Services feature, Quesnel was surprised by Alexis Charbonneau on lap 4. A restart on lap 4 saw John Gifford take the lead. Being the most consistent driver in the last few weeks took the lead on lap 7 and never looked back to win his third feature in a row.
Next week we will have another busy evening as the 2nd round of the Race for the Cure Sportsman series will be run as the Quebec Mini-Modified will also be present along with a complete race program.
