Heh...looks like that ASA/OSCAAR show back in July ended up costing me 49.50 to get into. Guess the season pass wasn't such a bargain.
I only hope the CASCAR race on the Labor Day Sat nite works out.
I agree that Sunday afternoons at Cayuga were better. On the other hand the audeince counts there were mostly nothing to write home about either, unless you go all the way back to the Molson ASA days. After all, the position Cayuga found itself in in the past couple of years (sitting dormant) didn't indicate to me that they'd been doing that well.
Its really a shame. I was hoping Cayuga would be able to transform itself back into something special. Its too nice a track to be sitting there doing nothing.
The rumours are out and flying, and if they are true, the Speedway could be in trouble.
The big talk behind the scene's is the Cayuga Show with NASCAR and the OSS will move to Delaware, although I think this is a hard one to believe as Cayuga would have had to pay for the NASCAR event up front, and I dont think NASCAR gives out Rain Checks.
I do know as fact:
The Late Model show that was cancelled was due to poor car count that pre registered (4 cars)
The True Value Sprint Car show was a poor fan count ( due to the lack of advertising)
The OSS that was cancelled was to be held in conjunction with a Rock Band deal and the Town would not issue the permit.
Cayuga Speedway is a landmark when it comes to race tracks in Canada, but for some reason it has been cursed ever since Bob Slack sold it. Bob's deal made him famous because he could put on a Special Show and fill the place, as well, run a weekly Friday night show that had more people in the stands then any other current owner has been able to sell for any event, except for the CASCAR show that hired on a handful of Cup Star's.
This is a last chance oppertunity for Cayuga, and mayby they need to offer the ticket prices at a discount rate of $25.00 per head in order to fill the place. I think putting people in the stands at a discount price is there only chance on rebuilding the reputation and I am sure anyone who bought the season pass will be really upset, but what else can they do. If the place fills up on this format, the Speedway should give anyone that bought the Year Pass 50% off of all ticket prices for next year.
If they dont take this chance to fix it, there might not be a next year !!
I will do anything I can to save the track, and I woulkd hope the real race fans will follow suit as it is a legend in Canadian Motorsports.
Well I guess when you break even on a NASCAR show and you didn't live up to what was promissed. This track was to be the Next Richmond Speedway but in Canada. I heard they spent over 1 Million + just on plumbing. One of the backers got out and people don't want to pay the high prices at the gate I guess.
Opps did I forget they paid Nascar over 150,000 for 2 races up front.
It is too bad I was hoping to see a brand new track in Canada.
Do the people a refund that paid 99 for the season pass? or is it like baseball where after 4 1/2 innings no refunds are issued.
Nothing even on their site to say what is going on.
This is truly sad news as there was so much hype put out to make us fans feel that something big was going to come. Not that it is a big surprise considering the news of how low the fan counts were other then the NASCAR event to start the season. Hopefully the fans will step up once and for all to show they truly want to see it come back to life!!!! At this time I can confirm 4 attending from my family.
DWfan4ever how many times do the fans or press have to show the support to this track??
I for one was not impressed with the way I was treated back when they had the Canada Shoot Out. I wasn't the only press member saying this either.
New owners made a bid deal of showing what the new tack was going to look like for the first Nascar Canadian Tire Series race. So I said I will give it another shot.
I get there the place looks the same. Had a hard time getting my credentials as the gate didn't have them and they had no phones to call anyone I was using my cell phone trying to get a hold of someone that could clear this up. The lady at the booth says the new owners are worse then the previous ones and she seemed pissed as she was taking the heat for a lot of stuff. She also said she got a till about an 1hr after the gates opened.
The race was good even though it was referred to the Nascar series over and over from announcers. I think I heard Canadian Tires name mentioned maybe 2 or 3 times.
I really don't know what to say. My favorite track was Kawartha. It was my first time there many years ago and I met someone to get my press passes she introduced me to people showed me around a bit and I really felt they wanted to show me a good time.
