The Delaware guys are reaping the benefits right now of the NASCAR Whelen point scheme that rewards bigger fields with more points per race.
Sheridan leads on the basis of a 1st, 2nd and a pair of 3rds meanwhile Shepherd has a pair of 1sts, a 2nd and a 4th but is 31 points back.
By my count the Delaware LMs have 10-11 scheduled features left (unless they can count the 300 and that would be 1 or 2 more) which would leave them a couple short of the 18 races counting towards the title. Barrie should easily get their 18 races in (pending weather) and could drop a few bad results but the Delaware guys could be too far ahead by then as long as the car counts hold up.
It will be an interesting battle to watch as the season plays out.
Yeah, thats the only part of the NASCAR thing that I think is a little cheezy. You're effectively penalizing the guys that showed up based on how many didn't show up.
Delaware will get all their races in, and have taken to splitting races into two. When we do the 50 lappers, they wave the checkers at the halfway point as well as at the end, and call it 2 features as far as NASCAR points go. We also have a 140 lapper coming up, so who knows how they'll break that down. Â
Now all of this is just for NASCAR points. Delaware points-wise, one race is still one race....I think.
