This Saturday Brighton Speedway will kick off its 45th season in grand style! For the first time ever the cars and stars of Brighton Speedway will be paraded through down town Brighton in the inaugural Parade of Champions Food Drive.
The parade will feature cars and drivers from all divisions that race at the speedway and will hit the streets of down town Brighton at 1pm. Food donations will be accepted up town at McDougall Insurance as well as cash donations. "Phil Leadbeater has been instrumental in setting this up and the town has been really cooperative and eager to make this happen. The Downtown Business Association is on board and the stores have been decorating their windows" says track GM Angela Rinaldi.
From the street to the track! Cars will head from town to the pits for opening night. There the cars will hit the 1/3rd mile oval for competition starting their drive to the 2012 Championship during the Monster Energy Drink season opener!
Record turn outs for this past weekends test and tune have fans, drivers and staff optimistic for the season and looking forward to the opener. "It was great to see the cars on the track with all the new paint schemes, it just adds to the excitement" adds Rinaldi. As a bonus Saturday night's admission is only $2 with a donation to the food bank.
Drivers will have one last chance to test their 2012 rides on Wednesday for the last test and tune event before Saturday when the four main the divisions hit the track. With champions returning in the all four divisions, Greg Belyea will be looking to defend the Vanderlaans Building Supplies Late Models, Dan Ferguson will be looking to do the same against a host of new comers in the Bainer's Radiator Canadian Modifieds, the "Big Smooth" will look to "three peat" in the Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks while Warren Mowat returns to the popular Comp 4 division to try and duplicate his 2011 effort.
